Paypal account got limited, is it safe to use a new Paypal with old Ebay account?

HI everyone, I really need help in this matter. I am not a big seller, I don't sell anything against any Ebay policies. They are normally household items that we no longer use. I used the same Ebay and Paypal account for the last 10 years. I probably sell 10-20 things every year on ebay. I have 100% positive feedback on ebay. I don't think I've ever sold anything over $300 in all 10 years.

A while ago, my girlfriend tried to open her own paypal account. We have the same address. She has a different name. When she registered, they asked her to provide address and ID verification. She got too lazy, and never completed the process, and never even used the account. This all happened 2-3 years ago.

2 days ago, her account that she never used got limited, 2 hours later mine got limited. I was surprised and called paypal. After an hour on the phone, I was told that my account was linked to suspicious activities (I am not sure if it was my girlfriend, but I really cannot think of anything else), they no longer want to do business with me. They wouldn't give me any other information quoting that it's "proprietary" information.

Now I still have auctions up that have bids. I want to get at least get that money from Ebay. My friend offered to help with his Paypal account. I am not sure if this is wise. Will Paypal get information from Ebay and link my friend's account to my limited Paypal account through Ebay? Will it cause his paypal account to get limited too?

No, it is NOT safe to use a new paypal accounts with an old ebay account linked to a limited/suspended paypal account.

It is NOT wise, do NOT do this. Create NEW accounts from scratch.

Yes they would.

Yes that would risk happening sooner or later.

I suggest you read around the forums & consider buying an account off from one of the US account sellers on here. Speak to them, most of them are highly knowledgeable on the subject & have a very understanding of the ins & outs of EB/PP.

Welcome to the forums - SUaVe is on top of this one.

doesnt fango do this with some success?

rsot 02-02-2012 01:14 PM

Define "success" - the issue is that it MIGHT work for a bit (and I have done this before) but it often leads to instant limitations or limitations on withdrawal. Either way, I would not expect this kind of action to last long. Hence, not worthwhile to recommend this potential headache...

Ok well, thank you guys responding. Anyone know if my Ebay account will get limited/banned soon as well? I've never sold anything even remotely suspicious on Ebay. All my feedbacks are positive. I do not owe any fees. I do not have any warnings. What excuse can they use to limit me? Can I just use some other method that's not Paypal to take payment with the old Ebay account?

I looked up Propay, it looks like they require the seller to be a PowerSeller. I don't know exactly what defines a "PowerSeller" but I am pretty sure I am not one. I probably sell 4-5 things at most a month, most month I don't really sell anything.

Is there any other way I could possibly take payment other than Paypal?

This is a bit of re-iteration of the main post number 2 but here goes:

If you contemplate doing any of the things you were considering to do, then yes albeit a lot quicker than at present.

EB/PP can & will limit/suspend/ban indefinitely any account as they deem & see as fit. End of.No 'if's & but's' about it.

The corpse of many an EB/PP victim slayed are scattered across this board. Many postmortems a day are done daily on such accounts across this board on the 'who's/whats/whys/whens' of those unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of EB/PP punishments.

I am guessing Moneybookers 'MIGHT' be possible, but this is flouting the 'no' linking principle of stealth as a previous account linked to a banned account linked to a new account is not a good idea. The US sellers on here might have some suggestions.

I think a new EB/PP A/C as sold on this board by a US A/C seller are your best bet If I was to be really honest with you about this. Really.

Missing info & therefore facts. If said account was not being used, how was it determined to be limited? Specific chain of events which lead to your needing to call paypal. :spy:

Since the girlfriend's account gave you grief your using your friend's account will give him grief. Think domino effect here. Absolutely linking will happen.
Not positive for the future.

Apart from the immediate need to get funds after your listings ends you also need to consider the future of the account. That will influence what you do now

I called paypal. They didn't give me a reason. Told me I was determined to be high risk, hence they no longer want to do business with me. The decision was final, and their customer service department can only give me this much.

Yes, my girlfriend never used her paypal account to make a purchase. She did however fill out her information when she made the account. It had the same address as me. They asked her to confirm her identity with ID, bills ect. She never followed through because she stopped shopping on ebay. Again, this all happened 2-3 years ago.

Since 1 day passed, so 3 days ago, my girlfriend's never used account got limited out of the blue. She saw the e-mail, and shrugged it off. My account got limited 2 hours after hers got limited. I am not sure why paypal's looking into it now. My account barely had any activity recently. I used it to pay for USPS stamp 1 week ago, the last time I received any payment was more than 2 weeks ago. I meant, if this was a problem, shouldn't they have caught on years ago... I have no clue exactly what caused the ban. I've sold nothing against Ebay policy and I have 100% positive feedback. There was never charge backs or complains. I can only infer from the fact that my girlfriend's never used account got banned 2 hours before mine.

I am guessing they thought I had 2 accounts. Since there are 2 account under the same address, same IP, and my girlfriend never bothered to verified her identity. I called paypal, and trying to explain to them. It was pretty useless. I escalated the phone conversation to the customer agent's supervisor, then supervisor's supervisor. They all pretty much said the same thing.

My friend doesn't really use his paypal account. He has one but he's never used it for anything. I don't think he cares if his account get limited or not which is why he offered help. He's never bought or sold anything on Ebay, and he doesn't plan to in the future. I don't think I am going to do it though. I'd still feel really bad if I got his account limited.

Anyways, either way. I don't think moneybooker will work. From my research, they only allow UK users to receive payments. I have less than 200 dollars worth of auctions I actually still want to list on Ebay. I will just list them on craigslist and hopefully get some cash.

Thanks guys for helping.

i've done it before to check, took them about 4 months to find out ,the other account ,they still haven't figured out ,it's been 7 months :-)

Ayusaga 02-15-2012 12:25 PM

Yeah, it's a crapshoot with them. Just don't link any previously problematic accounts with fresh newer ones, it usually doesn't end too well.

But yeah, always have some back up accounts ready to go, and don't sit and wait for them to come to a conclusion when they're reviewing your account. When they deem your account a risk, it will be tough getting that account back.

Sandy D 02-15-2012 09:39 PM

No way would I do all the work to have it taken down for linking.

Not worth the hassle.
