Paypal payment request question

Here's my problem.

I want to purchase an item that paypal doesn't like through Ioffer.

My seller informs me that it's ok to use paypal, but only if I give him my paypal e-mail so that we can do the transaction through a payment request route.

I'm skeptical of this and am afraid that it might be a scam. I inform him of my concerns and asked him if I could just purchase it normally through Ioffer.

He says that if I do that, his paypal account would be banned because of the nature of the item purchased.

My questions are:

1) Is he trying to scam me out of my money?

2) If I do give him my money through a payment request, will my money be protected if I don't receive my goods?

Thanks for your time and patience.

Hear the bells?

iOffer
Offer paypal @ seller's request.:violin: He's a smart seller.... go over his feedback...sniff & check any smells ;)

If the item is less than US$25 maybe (remotely).

Unwise, imo.:ballchain:

Makes perfect sense to me.

Just make sure when he sends you the payment request, he uses the invoice tool, make sure the invoice says exactly what you are paying for.

I send payment requests like that all the time. However, you are going around iOffer, so he wont have to pay any seller fees to ioffer.

Thanks for the help everyone (BIN4RY, GREENBEAN, error)

I'll test out the waters by purchasing 1 item, then increasing the quantites as the seller proves themself as a good seller.

I'll ask the seller if they have a google checkout account as well. I wish google checkout was more popular.

Like other folx have stated, do your due diligence - check his feedback...reputable sellers keep good customer feedback. I have asked for this kind of payment before and provided my business phone number to promote even more faith by the buyer.

Have him send you an Invoice for the item, listing conditions of the purchase and return policy, before payment!
