Ally alert!!!!

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

Just received call from Ally (Canada). They did not like the fact that they received 2 small deposits from PayPal under a different name. Thank god I didn't transfer any money from PayPal to Ally or else they might have kept it and would not have released it. At first agent told me that my account was under restriction. Then she put me on hold for a few minutes and when she came back she said that now my account it back in order but link between PayPal and Ally was removed and that I cannot receive money under different name from PayPal.

Conclusion: DO NOT USE ALLY! In fact I wouldn't use Ally for ANYTHING. They don't seem to be trustworthy. They aren't even a real bank anyways.

Appreciate the heads-up.

Thank you! I am glad I was able to contribute something of value on this forum. I hope that those like yourself and others who have an ally account might be able to pull their funds from Ally immediately and close their accounts.

You know what I don't think it's only in Canada. I think there was one member from USA who complained because they held his money. I just spoke with someone who said that Bank of America also once held his money and never gave it back.

yotano211 03-12-2012 11:08 PM

I think his name is Gman...something. They gave him trouble with Ally in the US. So it seems to be Ally all together. I guess they are changing their rules. Maybe instead of small deposits, do instant verify.

newjerseymax 03-12-2012 11:55 PM

Seems like maybe it depends on the particular rep or agent.

I once had the problem with BOA and they are considered pretty safe still.

50-50 at the moment.

Canadian users have troubles.
US users have troubles.

Considering the intergrity of a paypal account could be damaged by using that bank not unreasonable to let users know. :amen:

LoopHole 03-13-2012 12:25 AM

I really cannot see how a bank can just take the money like that..... can anyone link a law or something that shows this being legal on the banks side?

newjerseymax 03-13-2012 12:26 AM

Did this actually affect your paypal account? Or now are you just needing to add a different bank account? If paypal is not aware then accounts are rescue-able by just adding a different one yes?.

No it did not affect my PayPal account. I simply have to add another bank account.

boodie20 04-05-2012 03:56 PM

Ya, ally bank closed my account and kept the 800 dollars that was transfering. they said it was because the payment came in with a different name than the account. There goes 800 dollars..

newstart2 04-05-2012 03:59 PM

same thing happened here with Ally, they are not good anymore

sergfro 04-06-2012 04:03 PM

6 current accounts with Ally....two accounts went through the paypal verification process. So far so good. Crossing my fingers

sergfro 04-06-2012 04:10 PM

stanislav and boodie20,

did you have checking or saving accounts opened with ally?

Thanks for the heads up!!!! Once going to make a second pp and link my ally account because I dont really use that bank account anymore....

bansheezone 04-07-2012 11:40 AM

I have several Ally banks, at least couple hundred a week. No issue's then again I do call them and make sure they add the name to the account in which payments will be coming in from.

Just as a follow-up... I contacted Ally Bank and tried the same. They cannot do it over the phone. Only by Fax or Snail Mail.

They require

-The requested change
-Customer Name(Mine)
-Social Security of Primary Account holder (mine)
-Date of birth (mine)
-Name to add
-Social Security of joint holder
-DOB of joint holder
-Who will be primary
-Signature of Both parties

I called local bank and was no different. This would have been a great alternative to a DBA. However I think its very YMMV

Thanks anyhoot!

That's a lot of info lol maybe I am just a lucky guy.

All I did was call up to let them know I have payments from eBay sales coming in from Paypal in different names because my friend allows me to use his account and that was it. Same with US Bank :noidea:

The key word I got from your post was changed? you asked to add a name to a pre existing Ally account?. I set up my account prior to asking if I could get payments in from with another name as of know I am running a total of 6 accounts 3 of those are in my name, and the other 3 in my girlfriends name.

These accounts are used slowly as I only run a 1g a month for 90 days till I build up a history and go full on merchant account.

user3657 04-10-2012 03:56 AM

yeah, maybe someone else wants to try calling ally? Sometimes incompetent reps can "hear" different things. They dont quite understand the question but just assume its "this". Maybe the first rep was a forum member and knew exectly what the customer ment.

x2ruff4u 04-17-2012 10:44 PM

Will give them a call tomorrow and post what I got. I think ally is a good alternative, but not worth the headache.:ranger:

Packattack12 06-26-2012 10:48 PM

Yeah, I've had Ally since February - so almost 7 months and I haven't had a single problem. I have 10 online savings account with them, with 6 actively depositing and withdrawing money.

I am a little nervous now tho, going to look into BOA or just add an account or two on my Chase account.

Thanks for the heads up!

Did you ever get a chance to call them?

sergfro 06-27-2012 01:13 AM

I have been getting a call form an Ally rep for the past week. Its not a generic Ally # its a specific phone # to that rep so i'm assuming they caught on to my mis matched names. I left her a voicemail we'll see what happens.

StealthAssassin 07-06-2012 12:51 AM

I got a call from Ally today regarding mismatched names and that they did NOT like that and said something about how deposits were coming from paypal and they do not currently offer business accounts. Also said it was on page 2 of their user agreement.

I have had Ally since January and still had chase as a backup thankfully. I did a total transfer of funds to the chase account and I will close out Ally because they said that restrictions would be placed on the accounts receiving mismatched funds (4 of them). My primary account will not be restricted.

So, just to add to the other claims, it seems as if it is only a matter of time before they catch on and Ally is NO GOOD!

They will restrict or close the account.

MM78 07-06-2012 01:01 AM

@StealthAssasin, I had a similar experience with a different bank, What I did was I told them that my "boss" payed me through his Paypal and deposits would come in his name. They asked me all "His" info and once they were satisfied with the info they allowed all deposits to come through.

drebintech38 07-06-2012 02:05 AM

Would a slight name variant of my own cause a problem? Have yet to withdraw, and wanna be safe if at any point I need to swap out for a better bank.

Example:
Real - Good Evening
Variation - Good Evning

Ally was having NO part of it. They called me with the firm intent to restrict or close the account regardless of what I had to say. Glad to hear things worked out with the other bank for you though.

sergfro 07-06-2012 09:36 AM

They are closing my accounts in 2 weeks. Luckily they will be sending me a check with all the funds I had in there. Sucks for the person whose money is stuck with Ally after they closed the account

I thought bank of America was good to go? I just started using them, should I ditch them??

Right, that would definitely suck. I had JUST transferred about 4k from one of the ally accounts dedicated to paypal to my main ally account and she said since it was in progress, they could not stop it. Otherwise, they would have closed the account with the 4k in it and eventually send me a check.

drebintech38 07-19-2012 12:43 AM

After reading this thread I wanna remove Ally bank and add another bank. Is this safe?

I am using variant of my real name.

baloch 07-19-2012 12:56 AM

drebintech38 you can keep allybank or remove it but I would not take the chance of withdrawing to it. Better add another bank.

drebintech38 07-19-2012 01:01 AM

All I have withdrawn is $5 just to see what would happen. Went thru fine, but I'm unsure about larger amounts.

newjerseymax 07-19-2012 03:13 AM

Ive been using ally without a problem... Truthfully ive never had a problem with any bank...Even green dot... Maybe I just dont move enough money through them to worry about... Ally I only move about 1k a month... Pretty low compared to the regular B&M bank accounts.

drebintech38 07-19-2012 02:22 PM

Ya I hate to dump them since there cheap & easy to open. I would only be withdrawing $500 at the most
