Paying with paypal?

How many merchants jump past the paypal balance and demand the funds come from a credit card or bank transfer? Godaddy is apparently one of them when you use a code, or so I have read, but I'm on edge with other merchants who apparently do so too. When the payment hits a VCC without balance, will that trigger another limitation, even if you have balance in your pp?

Wait a moment, I thought merchants were required to accept any kind of funding through Paypal and couldn't specify which they wanted?

well I'm treading very carefully because it's my only experiment for the time being and dont wanna get limited

There are many threads in google talking about how godaddy for example goes directly for the credit card skipping the balance if a coupon is involved, and I've gone to a couple of paypal checkout pages from other merchants that hinted they were going direct for the card. I've talked with one very popular, if not the most popular, provider in their field, that said if I wanted to buy with pp balance I had to skip the payment process and send it to their paypal email!

Usually any site that sells virtual goods, paypal will require a bank account attached in case your credit card payment fails.

Plus maybe Godaddy and others want a credit card to charge so they can verify identity, something they're required to do by what's it called, ICAN.

I would have thought vccs (and carded cards..) would be a higher risk to merchants than paypal balances, though

Yes, but a Paypal balance doesn't let them do a AVS check on you. It's just a Paypal email and whatever info you give them. Just my speculation, though. Not even sure they have any access to that info when you pay through Paypal. But they must use Paypal merchant services which may be different from regular accounts.
