paypal world domination

did you know that paypal offers this "great" option to verify your bank account right away.... by giving them your online bank account's user name and password information! this has just gone too far. They warn all their users to never give our their paypal passwords, and yet they will happily collect your bank log in. I'm sure they got special personnel logging into our private bank accounts and snooping around. might as well spend some of our money while they're in there.

Its a 3rd party authorization, like Auctiva.

leonid5000 05-29-2008 04:31 AM

I didn't see that option before

jscan 05-29-2008 04:40 AM

isnt it provided by verisign? or maybe im thinking of somthing else

divine422 05-29-2008 02:25 PM

lol if this is true i cant think of a strong enough adjective for someone that actually do this. Ill just wait for the 3 days.

411guru 05-29-2008 04:55 PM

Yes its true. I made a paypal account recently and they said you can do immediate verification if you give them ur bank account screen name and password.

GreenBean 05-29-2008 04:56 PM

Are you sure about this? I know with BOA, you can sign in YOURSELF and do an instant verification. Would you post the information from paypal that says it does this, please? Otherwise, we may be creating another urban myth.

411guru 05-29-2008 05:05 PM

Greenbean, it is true as they gave me that option. There were 2 options. 1 where they make 2 small deposits to confirm your bank account. 2 (the new one) there are 2 boxes where you input your account number/login and password to your bank. The bank account I used was bankofamerica.

I don't have a screen or copy because I didn't think to do this at the time.

GreenBean 05-29-2008 05:11 PM

If so, this is potentially dangerous.

Aye, it's true and it works great. I gave them my info and verified things and I was ready to rock. Unless you're planning on ripping a lot of people off or go into the negative with Paypal, you shouldn't worry about it. Paypal isn't eBay. Even though they're the same company, it's nothing to worry about. I did this verification probably 6 months ago, my Paypal account is still good, my Bank account is still good, everything is good.

So say I have two accounts at the same bank. Then I make 2 seperate paypal accounts. I verified both of them using the online login method which logged into the same account. Would the be able to link the two paypal accounts?

You can always change your Bank password after the Paypal verification

ambercolour 06-06-2008 09:21 PM

Im sure in certain countries this is against the law, however Paypal seems to do whatever they like anyway.
