PP asking SSN / TAX ID #
 

Hi,
I opened a new PP/ebay last year and till today I have reached only $5000 totally in my PP account.But I logged in today and PP are asking me to give them tax# or SSN? Its says its for IRS requirements but I am not even close to $20,000....
What do I do now? Its in a family members name not my own.

the best advice is to start a new stealth account. not one but many. do NOT use friends or family. it will lead to situations like this. what happens if the IRS comes after your family member? things will not be so peach then. go stealth

I don't sell alot and will never reach $20k so is it okay if I just give them the ssn?
I doubt they will actually mail me the forms but I was just curious why they even asked when my total sales was only $5,000 for the whole year.... any idea

Yes, because their system has determined there is a POTENTIAL for you to make higher figures.

$5000 means little if your account got flagged like it has.

Try not to be naive. paypal has to answer to strict IRS demands. Expect the forms.

anyway I asked my family member to give their ssn. now I have to wait and see if PP send the 1099. Is it possible PP give the info to irs and not mail the forms to us because we are under 20k requirement.
How will I know if PP submits the info?
