paypal verify account holder phone call

I was sending money . Was a small amount 200$ and it came up that they wanted to verify that i was the account holder by calling me. I have never got this before. Is this new?

Few things....

$200 is NOT a small amount of money, in the eyes of paypal.

Weird as it seems it is a protective response from paypal.

They are making sure your account is not hacked.

It is also not new that paypal does this.

It is an annoyance to unprepared paypal account holders.

Is the paypal account new? Is it verified and confirmed?

If paypal 'see' a risk then they react.
