paypal wanting tax info
 

Paypal is asking for my us tax id number however i don't have one. What will paypal do if I do not provide one?

They will limit your bum, in 180 days you will have access to the funds again. Ditch the account.

Not nescessary to ditch the account. Follow these steps:

1) Incorporate (usually to LLC)
2) Get EIN
3) Upgrade to business account
4) Provide EIN to paypal

Then you met the requirement

will they limit my ebay account as well or just paypal. i really am very small time. i have had the account a year and have sold around 200 items with average price being 10 to 20 dollars. so i really didnt want to go through the trouble of getting ein.

so you say all they will do is make my funds unaccessible for 6 months and then I can withdrawl from it?

Will I be able to continue to have money sent to paypal from ebay sales and then just withdraw it after they lift my restrictions in 6 months?...i can live with that

They will freeze the eBay account associated with it. Listings will still be active but buyers will not be able to pay.

I thought they only prevented your paypal account from RECEIVING payments? Where do they say anything about freezing ebay account?

I am sorry. Maybe they do not freeze the eBay account but buyers cannot buy anything and you cannot create any new listings.

I just went through it maybe 6 weeks ago. I let an account go as long as possible after getting the PayPal message asking for the tax info. PayPal asked for the info after about $8000 in sales. The account lasted for about two more months and it hit $26,000 in sales and then everything was frozen. It took me about 12 hours to realize what was wrong. I already had all my info ready to go and added it to PayPal. Everything was good within a few minutes.

Where does the OP say he is limited? He speaks to having problems with paypal because of a lack of TAX INFO.

Options exist to resolve this, far different from needing treatment for sore bottoms.

Can you tell me, did they do something to the ebay? or did the auctions still go the duration. Im wondering if the auction ends, and your paypal is not allowed incoming payments by them, will it tell the buyer that payment cannot be processed? OR does it process and go through, but without being added to your balance.

I also just got the tax info message after 8k sales and about 100 transactions. If I stop selling for the rest of the year will this request go away after Jan?
