PayPal: 'Aggressive changes' coming to frozen funds policy - Jan. 21, 2013

Roscoe 01-21-2013 02:46 PM

Let's hope we can still work with PP after these changes are made. :help:

Interesting, doesnt seem like it will change anything on the negative side, if anything sounds like things might become a little easier. Competition is a good thing :)

This comment under the article says it all...

I used to work in the merchant division (business accounts) of PayPal. I felt so bad especially for people raising money for charity. They make it so easy to set up, but once you try to withdraw the funds...BAM a laundry list of paperwork is needed, and it was not uncommon for people to have their funds frozen for up to 6 months. I couldnt work there anymore, it felt too much like a bank, but then the dept heads would go out of their way to say we are not a bank, that is why we can do what we do. I havent used PayPal or eBay since I left, and I doubt I ever will again. For me, this is too little too late.

From the article:

Pal says it's finally ready to deal with the problem. It's promising to roll out a massive overhaul of its system within the next several months -- but details are scant for now.

Scant indeed - always trying to pull one over.

Yes, it's neither here nor there, but the fact that they are actually getting pressure to change (and are open to it) could be a good thing

Sandy D 01-21-2013 10:20 PM

My guess knowing pp well is they will come out with this huge marketing line of BS telling everyone pp is here for you and is going to remain the best option, less problems and hassles and be more open to listening.

Then like always, within days change once again to go back to being what they are "thieves in the middle of the night".

Dont be fooled, they probably have hired a consulting group to put a bunch of big words together that will be nothing but lies.

They are getting hurt badly by Square and others and cannot stand it.

Try not to be too naive.

They will resist as long as they can.

They are really The Borg

I hate to be skeptical, however whenever changes are announced, even if they deem to be 'good' to the public, there is always a change in the back room which will hit us hard.

Be prepared

What they are scared of is the govt forcing ebay to open up the payment processors they allow.

It is not a matter of if, it`s a question of when.

This is similar to the anti-trust action taken against Microsoft to open up Windows to other browsers besides IE. Their size and influence on the industry gave them a browser monopoly just as it gives ebay a monopoly on pay processors.

hopefully this will be a small victory for us tiny no bodies ;)

I agree.

They will do whatever they can to make them themselves appear to be the good guys now and they have changed for the good but behind the doors, still the dirty thieves in the dark of the night as always.

Skeptical? How about realistic based upon past experience. I agree with you 100%.

I hope this change comes immediately so we can see what the heck we're up against.

The sooner the better. Friggin PP :smash:

Yes, exactly knowledge is power...knowing will be half the battle now.

zoneout 01-23-2013 02:02 AM

So the possibilities are:

a) They lighten up on being so hold happy and increase their exposure in questionable transactions.

b) They do more extensive background checking on accounts.

c) They do nothing... this is a pure PR play so they can hold off the dogs for a while.

d) All the above.

Anything else?
