If you are going to making risky transactions like this, you really need a bank that will have your back. For example back of America will credit you back the money in question while the investigation is going on and they always rule in your favor unless the seller has a ton of evidence against you.

Also I hear you about bad months. This month I took a 10K loss. The building I own in Detroit got the plague and it is my duty to pay for to get taken care of. Not trying to one-up you rather trying to make you feel better about your losses.
