No more $1.95 test charge?

The last few accounts I set up on pp there was no $1.95 test charge for an added CC.
Has that gone away?

I liked having that $1.95 balance to make small purchases and build up a good history. What other ways can I put a small amount in a new account? When I click on add funds it only shows money pack.

danshan 05-07-2013 05:19 PM

Use the card to make purchases it is already on the account

MM78 05-07-2013 05:37 PM

Yeah it seems like they are not doing the $1.95 test charge, at least not for many accounts.

@random_user: are you trying to add funds to make a purchase?

Futuremogul888 05-07-2013 07:21 PM

Paypal likes to mix it up. I made an account today that they did the $1.95 test charge but one I made 2 days ago they skipped the step and just automatically confirmed the card.

vogeltron 05-07-2013 07:52 PM

The account I made last week. When you go to get the 4 digits to confirm the card. That is when I have the $1.95 test charge. Yet to have them skip this process.

MM78 05-07-2013 08:04 PM

Maybe it could be based on the type of Card used, I guess we'll never know...

unkown5454 05-07-2013 10:15 PM

PP keeps you guessing, just like any successful crimi/nal. You all should know this.

Sandy D 05-07-2013 10:22 PM

Be careful folks.

Sneaky pp has came back and then said you have not verified this account just when you believed it was done.

Nice trick by them that I caught.

Does not do it on all accounts and does it on different kinds and types of cards.

User beware of the pp end around.

MM78 05-07-2013 10:37 PM

As you said this, I just had an Account do that! lol. Going to keep $1.95 on all VCC's at all times.

Sandy D 05-07-2013 10:44 PM

I was hoping others would see this and keep an eye open.

PP is sneaky and switches things up to throw everyone off.

Yes, I am trying to add funds to make some small purchases. I like to buy a few cheap items and ship them to charities.

Why not go to the thrift stores or auctions to buy things in bulk?

The idea is to make the new account appear more active and credible. It seems to help some.

rsot 05-08-2013 02:16 PM

As an off note for Canada pp, still the norm is for the 1.95 confirmation charge - that has not changed or "dabbled with"

I know what the idea is. My thoughts are to help you build feedback as a seller using non risky items.

Best of both worlds, lots of goodies at thrift stores for easy profits and also easy to donate to needy people.

Speeder33 05-09-2013 02:41 AM

Sneaky pp, saw this happening as well, going to keep 1.95 on all these cards

Sandy D 05-09-2013 07:22 AM

Saw this early and smelled a rat coming. Never trust them.

Hmm. I had thought thats what they did to several of my accounts as well. However, a closer look revealed that it is a deceit/trick.

If you click on account limits, (on some new ones, it just says that you have confirmed the card.. without the 1.95 charge) and above the box that says all the information that talks about it, is a link. Something to the effect of " learn more about verification"

From there it will take you to another page that shows your monthly withdrawal limits... but it will be like this : /monthly

I just clicked on that, and was taken to the familiar page of where I choose the card that I want paypal to charge the 1.95 to and then get charged and enter the code as well (when I go back to it the same way I did just a minute ago)

... Sorry if that is confusing. But I realized that pp just hid the page to charge, so it just takes a little bit more work. But Once i figured out that, I realized that its there for all my accounts.

Futuremogul888 05-14-2013 01:59 AM

I checked through the new accounts of mine that did not require the $1.95 charge to see if this was the case. However all of the limits had been lifted on them and then they were fully verified. So I did some digging and this is what I got from in the newly updated Paypal FAQs section:

For security reasons, there are initial limits on the amount of money you can withdraw from your PayPal account each month. Until you complete the steps to remove the limit, you may only be able to withdraw $500.00 per month. The start of a month is determined by when the PayPal account was opened (for example, May 15 to June 15).
You can lift this limit by linking and confirming your bank account or verifying your credit or debit card information.
Here's how you can view and lift your withdrawal limit.
Log in to your PayPal account.
Click View Limits near your name on your Account Overview.
To lift your withdrawal limit, click Lift Limit.

It appears that Paypal is now only requiring one or the other for full verification and limit lifting. Although this appears to be a positive change, as always with Paypal, you have to take any positive news with a bit of skepticism.

Yea, they did the same thing to me. I had to kinda navigate through a couple different things to finally get to the part with the 3 boxes for SSN, Bank Account and Credit Card. But they did charge $1.95 and make me verify the 4 digit code. This was about 10 days ago.

I always confirm the Card before I add a bank acct. Not sure if the makes a difference.

WinterIsComing 05-14-2013 10:19 AM

I almost never get the $1.95 charge, and I go through a lot of paypal accounts.

Other small charges you can make are buying stock photos and ordering things from fiverr. Good luck.

I have been trying to tell everybody about this for well over a month. Guess now you believe? All I did was delete the card and then re-input the same card 24 hours later. Has worked 2x. Everybody was telling me I did something wrong that I was 420 or something LOL!
