Payment received but not on ebay?
 

Hello, I just encountered a very weird situation.

I got an email saying "notification of payment received" by paypal mentioning the sold item's ebay number.

In the transaction it says the buyer is unregistered but has a confirmed address.

The weird part is that this does not show up on ebay at all such as in the 'sold' items category or in my 'account activity' and of course since there is no trace of the item being sold on the ebay's website, my item is actually still listed as an 'active' item.

So I am now wondering if I should ship the item to them or refund the money back?

I agree, this could be some scam. Check the email address that sent the message. Sometimes they look legit but upon further inspection are ⊗⊗⊗⊗.

Check how you are addressed in the email.

Should have your name.

Sign into paypal. Check there.

If you want, send that email to paypal as a phishing/spoof email.
Put the full headers on it and forward to

spoof@paypal.com.

Yes, the email itself is legitimate. The money is there in my Paypal balance and all. In the 'details' section of the transaction, it says the buyer's user id and I can actually check their feedback on ebay and I don't see anything like a bad feedback or anything of that sort. The problem is that ebay has absolutely no details regarding the sale.

Dont SHIP or REFUND anything yet - auction is still active? Sounds very much like a scam. Wait for auction to be - either send this e-mail to pp or delete it and such.

Take a screenshot and blank out the info - post it here so we can analyze.

I actually already ended my auction early just in case I shipped the item but I still haven't. Here are all the screen shots I took, I hope this helps.
The only way I am thinking this happened is that the buyer somehow got my email address? I've been also searching all over google for something like this but I wasn't able to find anything related...

Yea first thing you should do is logon to paypal and see if there is a payment there. At that point, if everything seems legit it could be a bug. I have sometimes shipped items and it will show as shipped in paypal and ebay still shows unshipped.
Alot of bugs on ebay. I would not click anything in the email though.

Agree - using stealth method, log onto PP and see if the payment is indeed true - these e-mails can be spoofed soooooooooooo easily.

From the looks of it, you have logged onto your paypal and see the payment in there for the right eBay auction ID. To me, it seems like a bug on ebay's side. I would try chatting with eBay using ebay chat to see if they can fix it but I would ship the item.

I think there must be a bug on Paypal's site too because whenever I try to print the shipping label, there is an error that keeps coming up saying "go back to account overview". I tried it many times with different browsers and at different times but samething. Should I try Paypal's shipnow?

Dont call up PP and eB - not worth the risk.
