Square Cash - Could be strong PayPal Competitor

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that Square Cash is out. It is an app (part of the Square Brand) that allows you to send cash via email just like PayPal... best part about it? Its free to use.. no sending fees, or receiving fees. Seems pretty nice although you have to have a bank account, and it's just for United States as of right now I believe. While it can't take the place of PayPal at the moment I found it to be very interesting and I definitely think people should check it out. As online sellers we are always dealing with sending money (some of us) over to people quick that need to be paid. I am going to check this out soon, and get more solid information. I'll let you guys know more about it soon =p

- Now go sell something :)

Here you go GreenBean https://square.com/cash

@rsot ya of course. No way that's going to happen ANYTIME soon lol. Maybe never. However I just tested this out and I love it. You can download it on the IOS store as an app or android platform. Great for just sending money to anyone Completely free with just an email address, and your debit linked.. :)

I like the physical credit card swipe reader offered by Square presently.

does ebay offer this as a payment option? That's going to be the sticking point

That's the question , probably not . Amex serve prepaid does the same, u link a bank account and credit card to add funds and u can transfer or receive money for free using email address and no ATM fee or monthly fee but I doubt u can use that email to accept ebay payment either

Ya your not going to be able to use it with eBay. However I have used there card reader for garage sales and local sales in general. I love it.

It might not be as popular as paypal right now, but most people know what square is because of that card reader. I think it will catch on.

That feature is great for practicality - agreed. PP is still king online but time will tell.

Thank you so much. I have had Square since almost the day it came out for Craig's list. Works great as a credit card clearing house for me. Saved a few sales.

Square can be very picky so be careful with using it. They have a tendency to close your account with no questions asked.

Hmm. Well maybe I'm just lucky or something. I've sold about 40+ items, and haven't had a single closed account.

We are talking two different things. Square has a reputation with their card reader to shut accounts down in a heartbeat without any reason.

If this is the same Square I assume they will do the same with their cash out.

No No I were talking about the same thing. Ya that card user came out in 2010. I've been using it up to this point. However those (only) 40 sales have been spread out over 2 years. So it was never high volume. However I haven't used this Cash one (just that one transaction to my friend) on a serious selling day yet. I must have just gotten lucky though with the reader. I still enjoy using it.

Thing is it is on the table to contend with paypal.

Time will determine its success.
