PayPal added 2 zeros to a transfar
 

Hi,
I sent money to my credit card from my PayPal account,
and now the money got back to my PayPal account,
BUT[!!] I got more money than the money I sent.
Someone added by accident 2 zeros to the amount I sent.
What should I do?
Are you familiar with similar stories?

Contact PayPal and inform them of the error.

Advice paypal to get this resolved.

If you do not and paypal find out you risk being limited.

With no doubt you would have contact PayPal?
That's 75,000$.

Just contact PayPal and have them resolve the issue.

From a moral standpoint, you should notify PayPal of the error.

Of course, $75,000 IS tempting!

If you try to transfer it to a bank account, you run the risk of PayPal looking into the whole matter and closing your account. And if the transaction goes through, they will want the money back. I don't know what the law is in Israel, but in the USA, you could be charged with a crime. You cannot knowingly take money that was transferred to you in error. And I don't see anyone buying the argument that you thought that you were somehow entitled to the $75,000. But maybe the law in Israel is different.

Either way, the likelihood of you actually getting your hands on the cash is very slim. If you try to withdraw $75,000 from a PayPal account, somebody is going to look at the transaction. Hell, PayPal looks at $1,000 transactions, they are not going to let $75,000 just walk out the door without verifying it is legitimate first.

I thought taking it in small amounts.

I don't know, I can see them looking at his account as a security risk and worried it would happen again and shut it down

I disagree. Although it COULD go either way. I don't know if it was the bank or PayPal that accidentally added the two zeros, but either way, if the customer reported that, I don't see how it could be viewed as a security risk.

Just to let you know,
PayPal restricted [No withdraw only] my account after I contacted them,
They fixed the problem within 24 hours, then they removed the restriction.
I think as a compensation they gave my account business privileges.

I initiated the withdrawal 2 weeks ago, and it arrived back 2 days ago.

One more question - does the country of your paypal account (Israel) match the country of bank card issuer (Israel) ?
