Minor changes are one thing. And certainly, there comes a time when things should be re-designed and updated, but NOT every 2 years.
Same thing goes for software. A few years ago, Microsoft changed Excel and put everything under different menus. I actually had to TAKE A CLASS to continue using a program that I had been using for ten f***ing years!!!
Don't even get me started on Windows 8!
I'm sick of terms like "disruptive innovation" - to me, all that means is I have to put more effort into getting something done than I had to before. If its not broke, don't fix it!!! Edited to add: I think that is partially a function of the culture of IT. In my experience, many (not ALL, but MANY) folks in IT see users as a nuisance that have to be managed. But the fact is, we need IT departments that are responsive to the needs of the users, NOT users that are responsive to the needs and wants of the IT department! |
