Warning BBT Bank shut me down today
 

I have been banking at BBT bank for over 2 years and have my primary account which gets my SS there. I only had 4 open checking accounts and without warning everything was blocked at 3pm today. The reason they said was mis- matched names. The branch mgr. called me because he knows me and told me because I am totally locked out of everything until tomorrow...MAYBE! He said the vetting person was not available. Isn't that nice, close my accounts and go home. Well looks like I have to go to BOA where I have a backup account it just costs $12 per month.

Just an FYI that looks like BBT is going to start that for all accounts if not so already. Sucks because I have transfers in progress.

Anyone experienced same thing before? how do you thing its gonna end? what you going to do if they will not release your funds?

Does that mean anybody who makes deposit with BBT with mismatched names will get their account closed ? Or some may sill have a chance.

It means BBT will do what it wants with any accounts.

We do not do mind-reading and therefore should not say what may happen with a bank & its actions.

I wonder if they would do the same thing if it's only a variation of name like a missing letter or something.

Just my opinion for what its worth.

Greenbean is right, actions like this cannot be interpreted that all accounts with mis-matched deposits will be shut down.

They could or could not choose to do this.

Or they could choose to close accounts with the largest deposits with mismatched names.

It is more likely in my opinion they will risk profile accounts before making a decision.

Something I suspect Lloyds do in the UK.

I could be wrong of course.

But mass panic is not the answer.

If you do a search here BBT as a bank has few hits.

It may be a bank not used by many people.

You have other options for banks that are known to be OK provided you qualify to use their services.

Spend time looking for them.

I should have heeded the warning. Now the bank asks me to visit a branch with ID, but I've moved to a city which has no BBT branch...

Had this happen a couple of years ago, you will need to go to your local branch and get the funds out of the account(s) via check. They will NOT re-open the accounts, someone from risk management/fraud department closed the accounts for one reason or another.
