I just had $40 sent to my PayPal account and have no idea why
 

It wasn't for an eBay sale. Randomly I got an e-mail notifying me I received $40. Initially, I thought it was a f@ke e-mail so I manually signed into my PayPal to check and there it was...legit.

I guess somebody sent it to the wrong e-mail? Although my address is pretty specific and it wouldn't make sense if there was another person with a similar e-mail.

Not sure what to do from here though. It seems to be a Gift payment too (there's no fees). I've tried contacting the guy but no response. The name isn't familiar either. I've tried thinking desperately what it could be and I have no idea.

This can happen - sometimes you get XYZ@gmail dot com vs. yahoo dot com vs. hotmail dot com - etc.

paypal will keep bugging you to accept the funds.

Check your account to be sure it wasn't hacked. It happened to my friend today, she received two payments from the same unknown person and then her account was cleaned out.
