nostro | 12-05-2014 10:11 PM | Does PayPal track IP's through email? I accidentally displayed images for a PayPal email I received forgetting that I was on my stealth IP at the time.
Does PayPal track IP's via email and will they be able to link my stealth IP to a previously suspended eBay account IP that I had used that email with?
Am I in trouble here or not? |
jeffweico | 12-05-2014 10:14 PM | Re: Does PayPal track IP's through email? Maybe and maybe not. Sometimes this happens and the accounts are OK. Other times, they are not. I would hope for the best and be more careful in the future.
And, YES, PayPal, eBay and Amazon ALL use tracking beacons. |

Should I open a new account and forget about this one? |

Am I in trouble here or not? | As a one off, possibly not.
But if the occasion ever arrived that the account was checked, then a link might be established.
Make sure that future actions are checked to (try to) avoid this fright again.
Good Luck.

:ranger: | Keep in mind that the PayPal account is still up and running for several years now and in good standing, only the eBay account was suspended that I had linked to that PayPal account.
But I suppose if any suspicion is raised about this new eBay account and they notice that I had checked email of a previous suspended eBay account it might result in an eBay suspension.
Maybe it's time to get another account started again for backup? |
Re: Does PayPal track IP's through email? Always wise to have multiple backups in action |
jeffweico | 12-06-2014 08:20 AM | Re: Does PayPal track IP's through email? By all means, create another account (or five) but don't just abandon this account! It is potentially salvageable and you have nothing to lose by trying to save it. So, not trying would be a waste. |
Salvo | 12-10-2014 07:27 AM | Re: Does PayPal track IP's through email? As jeffweico and GreenBean pointed out, it's a big possibility.
When you get those emails, and it asks you to load the images, be careful. By loading them (on your stealth account), if you do not have a stealth IP in use at the time, they can link you. When the images are allowed to load, it "resolves" to an IP address and sort of phones home whomever sent it what IP allowed those images!
Gmail allows you to disable all images (or ask you before loading), make sure to turn that on! |

Gmail allows you to disable all images (or ask you before loading), make sure to turn that on! | Thanks for this info. I went ahead and just changed my local (non-stealth) IP so next time I login to that PayPal account it will no longer be from that old IP.
Thus, that old IP should not show up again.
I'm a little worried though and I don't know whether I should just forget about this account at this point and just start working on a new account.
That PayPal account is a well established account, only problem is I happened to display the images on that email when I was on a stealth IP.
The fear here is that my current stealth eBay account on that stealth IP may somehow get linked to my previous suspended eBay account via the PayPal email I displayed the image on.
The well established PayPal account was once linked to a (now) suspended eBay account.
JeffWeico says not to abandon the account just yet, it may be salvageable.
Based on these circumstances, I would think it doesn't exactly warrant an eBay suspension.
I changed the local IP so that next time I log into that well established PayPal account it will no longer show up. This means they won't see that IP again from me.
Hopefully that helps in that if I were to continue using that IP to log into that well-established PayPal account it would probably increase the chances of a suspension....
That old IP will not show up with my PayPal logins anymore.
Any input on this would be really appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: Does PayPal track IP's through email? Sadly, nothing we can state on the forum will be 100% clearing your fears.
GB indicated that one time is unlikely to create issues - I am in agreement.
jeffweico said salvageable - also likely true.
Your account is likely strong based on having it a long time.
Best thing is to move forward and spread sales to other accounts in order to BUILT them while still seeing how this account goes. Then after 6 months, you will have a bunch of PPs that work well and you feel good not relying on only one |
