Tracfones + Other PrePaid Phones
 

Ok so I was at target about to buy a phone and the guy said I need minutes to add to the phone. So the $5 phone is going to cost me $25. I thought these came with minutes and service when you bought them or am I wrong? I can't get a clear answer, some people say yeah some say no.

they do. target worker is mistaken. comes with 20 free minutes when you activate online

All types of pre paid phones not just trac phones?

I bought a trac phone at CVS yesterday, I did not get any free minutes when I activated it online though. I had to load the phone with a prepaid minutes card. Maybe I did it wrongly as this is my first trac phone. But no where on the box did it say anything about any free minutes, that is why I bought a prepaid minutes card.

Next time just go through the steps to activate the phone without purchasing minutes, once the phone is activated it will show 20 minutes on the home screen

thanks for the heads up. I, like the op was given bad info by the store. anyhow, next time they are on sale for like $5 I will pick up a few extra to spare.

As mentioned before you get 90 days of service and 20 mins for free when you activate the phone. Also here (NC) you are only able to buy 2 phones at a time so I buy what they have and say I need to do these separate (2 at a time) for tax write off reasons. I tell them I get the phones and donate them to a group who gives them to people trying to get a job but can not afford a phone plan them self blah blah blah. I don't know maybe I am going crazy just kind of worried with the way they are beefing up Identity theft laws to the point where you no longer have to use a social or a DL # or a checking / debit card # for it to be a crime if there is a "financial gain" just be careful people.

We don't seem to have anything remotely like these tracfones over here in the UK, we seem to be missing out big time
