Can paypal track me from my bank account???

I sold an item on ebay for over $1000. It is a new account with ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name and addy. There was a 21 day hold on the $$$ but i withdrew the funds into my checking account anyway. Now the buyer has opened a claim Not as Described which is bs. I think he is trying to scam me knowing there was a 21 day hold on the funds bc i am a new ebay member. If i close out that checking account is there anyway for them to trace it back to me. I am a little worried bc it is such a large sum of $$$. Any help in this matter would be great. Thanx

how did you withdraw the money if there was a hold?
but anyway, as long as you close that checking account i think you will be good

Cant talk about that....sorry

I sure hope so. I have other accounts at that bank. Not sure if that makes a difference

yaw1800 11-17-2008 01:17 PM

this doesnt make sense, if the money is on hold, you cant touch it....

There has to be some information you're not providing...

aking 11-17-2008 04:02 PM

The only way around this is in the claim, tell the buyer to send the back to you in the same condition and provide you with the tracking number once the item has been sent. When you receive your item back, tell the buyer that you are transfering the money back and then refund them.

Snagga 11-17-2008 04:40 PM

after the buyer put in the dispute he ended communication and escalated it to a claim. I told paypal i think that he is trying to scam me and explained everything/ but from what i have been reading here i have a feeling they will settle on his behalf. I cant afford to be out $1000, im not a big seller here. I am just worried if they can track me through my bank account

yaw1800 11-17-2008 05:16 PM

if they decide in his favor, your account will go negative. once it goes negative for approximately 30 days (could be earlier), your account goes bye bye. I do know that after 60, they send it to collection agency, but they wont actually attempt to take money out your bank

brokebackebay 11-20-2008 09:09 AM

y, but they wont actually attempt to take money out your bank
oh yes they will, if you have that account linked as a backup funding source to that paypal account they can and they will dip into it. Didn't see if the OP had clarified that or not. Immediately go in and make sure that account, or any account for that matter, is not linked as a backup payment source for the account. If they are, yank 'em.
Is your intention to refund the buyer if they return the item to you? Once they show ebay proof that they sent the item back they will most probably side with the buyer. But, if they do side with the buyer and you don't have the funds in your account to cover the refund, they will, after a period of time, close out that account and then any ebay accounts linked to that paypal account will be closed shortly after.
Good luck.

I have my bank account as a backup funding source when I got scammed from the chargeback they did not touch my bank account .... simply sent it to collections

Snagga 11-20-2008 04:54 PM

ok for some f*@$#ed up reason the settled in his favor. He has not mentioned returning the item to me nor has paypal. He has been ignoring my emails. Also his ebay username and email are the same. He has no feedback. I think this is purely a scam on his part because he prolly knows about the 21 day hold. I have called paypal as well (from my verified number) and the basically told me their decision is final. BTW the item i sold was brand new and unopened. He stated i sent a box of rocks. The ebay and paypal accounts have ⊗⊗⊗⊗ names and addresses. So i am not really worried about that. However the bank account is in my name. I am gonna close it tomorrow. IS there anyway they can track me down and find out who i am through the bank account on file. Basically are there gonna be cops knocking on my door one day bc of this matter.

yaw1800 11-20-2008 06:11 PM

When they decided in his favor, your paypal account is now negative?

Snagga 11-20-2008 06:33 PM

yes it is negative

Burst 11-20-2008 08:24 PM

Get the money and run

yaw1800 11-20-2008 09:07 PM

ha ha .. i cosign ^^^

They just keep emailing you to restore your balance .. they wont touch your bank account so you're pretty much good.

brandon1984 11-21-2008 07:16 PM

yes, take the money and fun as fast as you can, i got a call from a collection agency asking to talk to a Mr. Pat Magroin becasue my paypal account was negative $35.00, i just laughed and hung up.

internetauctionking 01-29-2009 06:32 PM

yeah dont worry about it.

Snagga 01-29-2009 07:30 PM

worry... already forgotten about. A week after this claim i opened a stealth "chew and screw" account. Racked up $1100 in ebay fees. Then ditched it. I used this person's name and addy. And right before i ditched the account i added his phone number. He is no longer a registered user.:D

Hahaha retaliation is a b### isn't it? Thinks like this make me proud to call myself a member of this forum. Nothing makes me feel better than seeing scammers get what they deserve :)

I've been reading some time about this. So with a stealth account that only has a gift card as a backup, if I close the bank account, then ebay can't possibly get to other accounts I have with that bank, right?
