PayPal requesting Tax Identification for Payment
 

So I received an invoice from a supplier for payment. I input all the required information but when I click submit payment it goes to another page asking for tax identification number.

Has anyone experienced this? It basically said something like, due to high amount of purchasing it is required by government to obtain a Tax ID from you.

The account is not limited, and I have bought about $8000 or so on it this month.

Yea....you're moving a lot of money around and they need to know who you are. I'm assuming this is coming right out of your bank account.

Nope, from attached credit card for the most part.

I thought this rule applied to receiving money only. Didn't know they request tax information for buying. Interesting

You sure its paypal? You sure its not a phishing site. Check the url bar make sure it is paypal not decksre.paypal.gen.com or something weird like that make sure it is paypal dot com

Definitely PayPal. I didn't log in from a link; I opened a brand new browser and typed in address. I wish I had captured a screenshot but it's too late now, the invoice was canceled.

How to get a Paypal account with SSN, like that I won't have that problem...

I get this on international sometimes.

A pp acct with some one elses social on it is not a good idea

Yes, that's right, but am sking for SSN with the name of that person in the Paypal account, like that, there will not problems.

Yes, international, how you do it?... no dollar amount for now, but want to know about it, because I do business online with Paypal.

It was somewhere around $750-$900 , in that range.

If it is from an overseas supplier I could see this. I know myself included many moons ago had issues because I sent to many WU payments to suppliers overseas at the time.
