paypal send funds bank transfer - uk
 

ok so i sent some money to another persons paypal via "pay for goods or services" and then "instant bank transfer" for a classified ad and now i have had an unexpected bill come out and there won't be enough money in my bank to take the direct debit from paypal

i am really worried as my bank does not let me go overdrawn so it will be declined. what will happen?

will i go into a negative balance or will the money transfer be cancelled?

any help would be much appreciated

That depends on your bank. If they honor it, you will have a negative balance. If not, they will reject the transfer.

You might want to post the name of the bank and do so in the section geared to UK users. Perhaps another member who banks there can give you a better answer.

Hi thanks for your response.

My bank will 100% reject the transfer as I cannot go overdrawn and no money coming in for another week.

My question is what will happen in PayPal once the bank refuses the transfer, will my PayPal balance go negative or will the transfer to another user be reversed / cancelled?

Depends bank might decline it once and paypal tries a few more times before it makes your paypal account go negative.

if your bank declines the payment, your paypal will either get a negative balance or it will reverse the payment to who ever you paid paypal with so that you still end up owing the person you paid.

Yes that's what I'm looking to find out - which it will be.

I can handle a negative balance as it can be paid off in a few days when I get more funds but I don't want to piss the seller I paid off as I use them a lot and want to keep on doing so so don't want my payment reversed / cancelled

Payment will most likely be reversed.

HOWEVER that is no guarantee.

You could message the seller if the payment is reversed and apologise and say that you accidentally cancelled the direct debit and you'll put the payment through again.

The payment will be attempted twice and then will fail and then your direct debit will cancel, they always do after 2 attempts and then if that happens you will need to set it up again, your funds might go in before the second attempt is made to take the payment in which case you will be ok.
