Can paypal keep the documents we sent forever?
 

Can paypal keep the documents we sent forever or do they destroy them?

Agent on the phone told me that they archieve every documents we sent to them forever.

Is it even legal what they do?

what is your opinion?

Think it says in their T&Cs 6 months but assume they keep them forever as they retain a lot of other information.

Overall companies have a right to retain what they deem necessary to protect themselves. paypal are no different.

Paypal tell half truths to account holders.

Info is retained. I can attest to that after a chat with a more intelligent than usual paypal staffer.

Just occurred to me if you are referring to that other thread, then those documents will be 'there' in the paypal systems for ages to come.

I'm surprised that the rep told you they keep it forever.

That may be the first time a rep actually told the truth. Certain countries have different laws that would require the information to be attained. In the US business need to keep the information for 7 years because of certain tax laws

However PayPal and eBay have facilities all over the world, so if they were to keep that information that was located in a server in the Philippines , which may have no laws that would require a business to keep or destroy such information after a period of time , than it would be legal for them to hold that forever

Ebay keeps things 6 months to a year. Paypal keeps it forever. As usual, Dm is on the right track. Also theres a lot more to it than just complying with tax laws.
