Paypal requires ssn when upgrading to business now?
 

hi there
I was just trying to upgrade to business account on a newly created paypal account. normally it would allow me to enter the EIN or SSN later. but this time it REQUIRES EIN if i choose LLC and if I choose Sole proprietorship or partnership, it would REQUIRE me to put the last four digit of SSN, otherwise I can not proceed, im stucked here because I cant go back to personal account either, please advice, thanks!

no, on the first page it asks for EIN and EIN is optional if I choose sole proprietor or partnership otherwise it is mandatory. if i omit the EIN there will be another page pops out asking for last 4 digit of SSN to proceed. So they REQUIRE either EIN or SSN to proceed.

You can't enter any 4 digits on SSN#.

its best to wait until paypal requests tax reporting information before upgrading to business… otherwise, upgrade to premier if you desire the added benefits.

have an EIN handy at least 2 weeks prior to allow enough time for the IRS database records to update

you can do what I have already suggested

to upgrade to premier- google "upgrade to premier" and click on the first link

does not work with all search engines so best to use google.

most notably, it allows you sell BIN items only to customers who can pay right then

Are you referring to off eBay transactions on other platforms? Because I have a personal account on my eBay stealth account and I can require immediate payment with BIN.

I've seen this too, got asked for tax information and took a few days to enter it and when I tried the account was limited already and can't upgrade to business since it's limited and can't enter EIN unless I upgrade. Emailed them and they need SSN to upgrade, tried creating a new business account and also need 4 digit SSN like you say. I'll try chosing LLC instead and see of that let's me enter EIN

its likely a premier. theres no distinguishable difference in appearance

test it by following my google tip and see if that link gives you the option for premier

Yes, it went to a PP page and let me upgrade (it was a personal previously).

Any rhyme or reason to this?

2 weeks ago I was creating PP business accounts no problem. Now, need social and birthday.

I will post more info next week but this is a glitch from the eBay and PayPal separation like the glitch many saw yesterday on eBay.

Just started making a PP account, decided to go for Business and got to this page. Should I just start over with a different email address and bogus name?

No, I hate to say this but my recommendation would be ti cease any upgrades or account creation until July 9, 2015.

Go through the upgrade process again, when it takes you to the final page for the "patriot act" asking for last 4 digits of ssn, open a new tab and type in paypal dot com....keep opening new tabs with the url until it finally brings you to your new business home page. This has got to be the strangest thing I've seen on paypal yet.

And right now at the first notification to provide tax info they limit your account and can't upgrade to business because it's limited. Any way around this besides opening a new business account which still asks for the SSN?

A week ago many users saw GH68rc1 error on the eBay logo and some pages were not available as well. Within that same week every upgrade and new account on PayPal was getting the ssn verification. These incidents are supposedly a glitch from the eBay and PayPal separation which is in progress right now. The deadline for the system separation is in July 9, 2015.

However, knowing that PayPal is the devil himself. They may just leave it as is just to see everyone suffer. If after the system separation this error is not fixed then I would assume this is permanent.

to the guys having this trouble- did you try converting before withdrawing any funds?

Ive noticed paypal getting finicky with accounts that do not withdraw

Yes, every time I try I do it shortly after account creation.

Would hate to lose an account due to SS requirements after adding a bank, etc.

PayPal removed this verification request one of my account with my real info. If you don't have $20k in sales or 200 item sold them this is a glitch confirmed by PayPal themselves. You may have to call then more a couple of times. Be careful PayPal and ebay are notorious liars. You may get a lying rep telling you it's just you having this issue and a honest rep that knows this is not normal.

Remember if you are not adding funds, sold any item, reached 200 sales, or have $20k in sales then this is a glitch.

Its generally recommended to not convert to a business account until you get the request for tax information

if you cannot wait that long, just be sure to somewhat establish the account first and have successful fund withdrawals to your bank.

so your statement - "Would hate to lose an account due to SS requirements after adding a bank, etc" - is redundant. you are losing an account when you convert it to a business right away. Take your time.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be missing the point.

3 weeks ago, I, and apparently, everyone else, could create business accounts day 1 with no problems or verification, as many as we wanted.

Today, this is no longer the case.

If this had ALWAYS been that way, I'd agree with you, but since this is a RECENT change, that's why there is a discussion about it.

As I said before 2 of my accounts got limited on the FIRST request for tax information, and it doesn't let you upgrade to business because of the limitation, so there's no way to pass beyond that and enter the EIN number.

It's not a normal limit since you can still do everything on the account, except upgrade. After 2nd request they limit beyond that and can't accept payments.

That's not my quote but I have to say that information is incorrect, this happened on one of my accounts that is 1.5 yrs old. Also they can remove it off you call them and get the right rep.

I'm not so sure this is a temporary glitch

paypal* has also started limiting accounts that send funds before making any withdrawals

it may be safer to process a few transactions, withdraw a time or two, then convert if absolutely necessary

I believe its best to wait for business conversion until the account gets to the point where it requests tax information before burning an EIN prematurely.

burning banks is far better than burning EINs

Never heard of any eBay feature for sending fund or withdrawing fund.

The thing that you don't is that if you establish a small sale history that is just gives then an excuse to ask for ssn but if you don't have any history there is no reason for them to ask for it if all you need is a EIN.

They are trying to be bank but they can't. They have a option now to reinstate old accounts because banks do not blacklist people WITHOUT the option to reinstate.

I bet PayPal is snooping on this thread right now laughing.
