Paypal SSN Request For Sending "Large Payments"
 

This is a new one that I have run into....tried to make a payment of $5000 from my card and got a promot for SSN, TIN or Passport Number. Had the jargon of "we need information for large payments". Needless to say, I cancelled that payment and had 2 invoices sent which paid just fine. Has it always been like this?

Never heard of that before.
Then again Ive never (and will never) used paypal for such size transactions before...

Yes. Before I knew about how PayPal works, I naively sent a payment for more than $5,000 for an "off eBay" transaction. It was also blocked and they wanted more information.

Any payment facilitator will do this. Because if you are regularly sending these amounts, it represents a risk, either that there will be HUGE chargebacks, or that something illegal or shady is going on.

Most businesses, when sending such large payments, use bank wire transfers. So PayPal gets suspicious.

Amount can trigger flags within the system. It is a protective move from paypal

When you make a payment for that....many factors to consider. Is your PP verified?
