Paypal's loop after asking for SSN
 

So they are requesting my business EIN...

I tried to enter it and it brings me to the "upgrade account", clicked on it and took me to "sorry can't upgrade because it's limited", clicked on resolution and brings me back to the option of entering the EIN / SSN / ITIN.

This is beyond ridiculous

Is there a solution? I have had to create new business accounts, and it is hit or miss on which ones get the 21 day hold on payments as a new account.

I had to call in on one of my accounts. After talking to three reps I finally got one to help me. He had me put EIN in both EIN and SSN field, and the account has been a functioning business account since.

They didn't give you a hard time to provide an SSN as well? Why did it take 33 reps? Just curious. I have had to just set up new business accounts, and it is annoying changing everything over..

to enter in your ssn without going in the loop you should click on ADD MONEY under your balance there it will also ask for a ssn

It was only 3, lol. I got the impression the first two weren't aware of this workaround, but idk.

Most of the reps will insist you need to provide SSN. Just keep insisting that you do not give you SSN to private companies because of ID theft, and explain that is why you have and EIN. It's kinda hit or miss..

On a side note, I've heard it is much easier to upgrade to a business account BEFORE you are prompted for your tax info.

Just had this issue as I waited over a week 1/2 from the first irs notice. Got the 2nd reminder early in the morning and by the afternoon they limited the account. After over a day of no email message answered, finally they answered and said a SSN was required to lift the limited status. I called and someone transferred me to someone where I just gave my EIN and they took the limit off.

Just have fall on the right rep.
Im guessing with the crap work conditions over there they have a pretty high turnover of employees meaning most of the time a small percentage of the reps will actually know how to do things properly.

I did it many times. There is no problem. You try it after few hours. Sometimes pp system has error
