| joanna4051 | 11-03-2015 06:51 PM | Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names After 4 years of using Ally, all my bank accounts have been blocked until as the "specialist" from I suspect the fraud department gets a call back from Paypal. She asked about the Paypal deposits that should be in my name but aren't. Does this mean that all my Paypal accounts will now be linked and restricted? Can the bank give my personal information to Paypal? Will I be able to get my money from the bank??
Anyone with similar experience?
Thank you! |
| Maliquest | 11-03-2015 07:35 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names That is a good question. I need to check in on this thread. Sorry I posted with no advice. |
| Maliquest | 11-03-2015 07:36 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Oh. I do have advice. This is why I ALWAYS create paypal accounts with names similar to my own. Missing a letter here, switch a letter there. That way you can play it off as bad typing.
Hope it all works out for you. Kinda scary |

I also play very dumb in real life. Most my family know it is an act. Key to my success everyone underestimated me. I also play broke and I look the part. Comes in handy. My pharmacists saved me $1000 a month off coupons he gave me for my most expensive prescriptions. I have two college degrees and most people think I dropped out of high school. |

| newjerseymax | 11-04-2015 11:21 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names How long have you been with them?
Are they Savings or Checking?
How many withdraws/Transfers do you make?
What is the amounts transferred.
Been with them about 4yrs and no problems...
You flagged for some reason. Nobody looks at electronic transfers unless something flags. Example lots of withdraw from Savings. Leaving no balance, etc |

I had PP contact the bank (Chase) and I had to go into the branch, the manager talked to me like I was a punk kid and she was a state trooper. I explained how PP drained my account once and I was just trying to keep that from happening again (it's true- she could see it in my history) and no problems since. But your details might help us find what it is that triggers a bank or PP to call the other. Please share, thanks! |
| rio382 | 11-14-2015 02:33 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Banks getting targeted as we see in the news for anti-laundering and terrorism activity's regarding customer accounts so its a wake up call for us to review how we conduct our business via paypal and banks. They need to show they are been proactive in weeding out customer acc's that look suspect or else they will get hit by Obama big stick rules.
Totally different names between PP and bank is I say a bad choice these days a variation is a risk but depends on what country your bank is in.
Well Greece still has (and always will) very lazy sloppy admin regarding name variation.
Greek rough translation of say an english name spelt in english but using their greek pronunciation means its overlooked. Greece is such a crony state that you would be amazed how uneducated and dumb many bank staff are because they favoured the job by connections and not by educational merit.
There are more and more Chinese coming to Greece so they can have a field day with name variations.
I did hear that its possible for an introducing new overseas clients to greek banks using skype and passport ID held against face for live verification but now who wants a free Greek bank acc when they have capital controls?
Having said that a new rule passed that after the capital controls that free movement of capital incoming can be sent out again without restrictions upto the value of the incoming amount. So the trapped money is what ever was there before capital controls.
Sorry just some free info for any one ............. |
| jaguargene | 11-14-2015 07:47 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names I had read somewhere that a PP employee could do a hard look, meaning a human. At the name on the bank account. I also read that if you transfer money from your bank account (for a transaction) to PP they could see the name on the account. Anyone know. Thanks |

Heard that when they do the two transactions .01 .15 etc to confirm when they pull back the money, I read they are able to see the info. Not sure if its true or not. |

| joanna4051 | 11-15-2015 10:24 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Upadte: as of today, bank accounts are still blocked. When I called in a few days ago I did not get the honor of speaking to the "specialist" that I was connected to last time and told instead that she will get back to me within 3 business days. That has not happened.
Paypal accounts, surprisingly are intact and money in them made "available". I have not yet added any new bank accounts for that purpose afraid it will trigger something. |
| joanna4051 | 11-15-2015 10:29 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names To answer previous question, there were mostly checking (5) and a few savings (3). Some with paypal deposit activity for 2 years, other months. One had a debit card connected to it used for purchases. Transfers usually between 100-300 dollars. A few were overdrawn several times due to paypal taking money out and draining the accounts. While it all may sound as "not careful" etc., it's the same activity for years. |
| SaiJin | 11-16-2015 11:36 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names which bank is this? Big bank or one of those small credit unions or local banks? |
| yaBeh8ater | 11-17-2015 02:35 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names i had this happen several months ago. i simply explained that i dont use my real name on paypal or ebay anymore because i got scammed too many times and they wouldnt let me accept payments under my name anymore.
i use names for both sexes. i have 3 accounts with womens names and last i checked i had a pecker (which was 5 minutes ago). |
| joanna4051 | 11-24-2015 12:29 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names What happened after you gave them the story of being scammed and not using your real name? |

| Packattack12 | 12-05-2015 11:09 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Any update here OP?
You get your Ally accounts reinstated? |
| joanna4051 | 12-07-2015 09:42 PM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Update:
I was contacted by a different "assigned agent". This one was a lot nicer and did not have the accusatory "you're a fraud" tone. Explained why he called and referred to only one account. Said it was used for business purposes and Ally does not allow that. Said he can ask his supervisor if I can keep the account if I cease paypal activity (again this whole time no mention of all other accounts). I said sure, I didn't know selling my things was considered business and I will definitely stop if I'm breaking the rules. I have access to my accounts and debit card and am under a 30 day "supervision", i.e. being watched to make sure no paypal deposits are made. Other accounts were not mentioned and I assume using them with paypal would automatically trigger the process. So, I have the accounts back but no longer are they usable for paypal. |

| LoopHole | 12-09-2015 09:04 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Can you share with us how many transfers you were doing weekly and the $ amounts for that one account that was flagged for using it as a business account?
Also i will add for anyone whos using savings accounts to be careful with your withdrawals. Not sure if all but i know some banks are really strict with this and they will flag your accounts pretty quick and even shut down them. |
| newjerseymax | 12-09-2015 10:29 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Did you put anything in the memo field when doing the transfers? Just curious |
| joanna4051 | 12-19-2015 12:53 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names No memos. I'm estimating about 1-3 transfers a month for a few hundred dollars on about 3 accounts. |
| JJ373 | 12-19-2015 03:57 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Just want to clarify, OP, in the original post you mentioned mismatched name being a possible issue, are you certain after talking with the second rep that the whole problem was just because of the business being conducted on a personal account and that they didn't care at all about the PP deposit not being in your name? |
Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Ally bank has been known for being bad for mismatched name deposits (auto-block issues) but this case indicates that while it works for stealth, there is chance for manual review....like any bank can do. |
| joanna4051 | 12-20-2015 11:12 AM | Re: Help anyone? Bank contacting Paypal re: mismatched names Correct. Original issue was the mismatched names as posted. It was a different "agent" assigned to my account. After about two weeks I was contacted by an agent possibly from a different department-- I did not want to inquire too much -- and this much nicer guy did not mention anything about fraud/ mismatched names but rather just went into the system to read the notes,m to remind himself why he called and explained that the reason for the block was that business activity was being conducted on a personal account. | | All times are GMT -5.
