Explain this 21 day hold...

Ok, explain this one. New eBay ID, aged about a month, about 15 feedback from buying Christmas gifts. Using a 3mo old Paypal account, linked to my other selling ID (yes, I have other backup IDs linked to other Paypal accounts, but in case my other selling ID gets a neg or two, always good to have a backup to work with, and the Paypal account has my wife's legit info)

Anyhow, sold a few CDs on the new eBay ID, no 21 day hold. Figured that it was because it was linked to an experienced Paypal account. All 4 CDs sold, recieved positive feedback, etc. Listed a few more CDs today, a couple of DVDs, and 2 of our main products to start getting things going. Sold another CD, no 21 day hold. Sold one of our regular products (only $19), 21 day hold. Sold a DVD, no hold.

I don't really care about the hold, was actually expecting for some of my earlier sales, but why that item and not the others? My only thought is that I used the eBay SYI form for the CDs and DVDs so I could easily use the prefilled info, but used Auctiva for the regular product. Anyone see a difference in hold frequency when using Auctiva vs eBay lister? Or am I just reading too much into it?

Its random o sold dvds and some get holds and some dont dont know why but after time they wont put holds on you no more.

jvc5700 01-14-2009 10:36 PM

That's what I figured, but it just creeped me out a little bit that they put the hold on my "good" item. I just thought it was always your first few transactions, didn't realize it was so random.

There are many threads about the 21 Day Hold issue.
So instead of posting your question on one of those you decide to create a entirely new thread.
So not we have many threads PLUS 1 more.

On most boards, that would be considered stealing a thread. Almost every other post was either about getting around the 21 day hold or crabbing about it. I'm not talking about getting around it, I was asking if I had found something that might cause or more importantly NOT CAUSE it.

I know much you love to lecture newbies HereWeGoAgain about country location and asking silly questions, but I have read almost every thread on this board, and was actually trying to start a meaningful discussion.

Just wanted to share my recent experience with the dreaded 21 day hold and maybe it will help. I sell one type of product. Different items but the same general product. I have 9 DSR's and they have finally stopped the 21 day holds. I had 25 sales when they stopped the holds. All were shipped immediately after payment. I also waited 4 1/2 months to start using this ebay and paypl account also.

I read in the ebay policy that if your account is a new account it is likely to get this 21 day hold. They will stop this hold either your account has 100+ feedbacks, 6 months old, or at least 10 DSR's.

I second that, it is becuase of your newly ebay feedback and lack of DSR
although the combo was a safe option to choose with, it is also completly random for people, hard to predict

Someone really needs to educate Paypal on tracking. First Class - which is what most of my stuff is sent - doesn't qualify for tracking. If you want tracking, you need Priority Mail. The bigger post offices may not notice first class getting by. But, I live in a little town and know my post master very well. She says she returns about 50 items a week due to Paypal letting delivery confirmation on First Class.

Here We Go Again 02-14-2009 11:37 PM

^^^^^^^^^^
You are right and wrong at the same time and so is your PostMaster.
You are right in the fact that you can not use Delivery Confirmation in a First Class Regular Envelope ($.42).
If you send your item as a First Class Parcel you can use Delivery Confirmation any day of the week.
There is a difference.

NotGoodEnuff 02-15-2009 03:03 AM

I will have to look forward into it. I mail an 9 x 13 envelope. My product is stationery.

But, thanks for correcting me. And pointing out that there is a difference. I have Paypal account that I created over a year ago. But, didn't do anything with it until now. And every payment that came in has been held. Which is why I came to look around - to see if I am missing something.

Here We Go Again 02-15-2009 03:48 AM

How do you pay for your postage?

My envelopes usually cost between $1 - 1.17. I transfer funds to my bank daily. My regular paypal account is on the level. It has been limited 2x. But, I am able to get it freed up. I have a large family. I make sure none of my household money pays for any ebay fees, purchases, or postage.

My new Paypal account is being affected by the 21 day hold. It was created last February. But, I just started selling on that account. I am having to use $$ from sales with my other Ebay to pay for expenses with this new account. 100 seems so far away!

Here We Go Again 02-16-2009 01:48 AM

^^^^^^^
If you shipping is costing you $1 -$1.17 then you are shipping pure First Class and will not be able to use any Delivery Confirmation.
You need to check what the label says in the top corner.
That letter code in the shipping label box will tell you for sure what class you are using.

I know that I am shipping First Class. I thought this was my only option - other than Priority. My items are Fixed Price at $3.00 & $1.25 for shipping, which is higher than most of my competitors. So, I am not making anything more than some cents on these. But, it keeps my DSR's up. The other items I sell take longer to ship.

Here We Go Again 02-17-2009 04:32 PM

Ship your items as a 1st Class Parcel.
I do it everyday.
And I use Delivery Confirmation.
Depending on the weight it should not cost to much.... $1 to $1.50 maybe.

Im going to have to agree with Herewegoagain. There isnt a way to prevent the hold so why run around in circles necessarily. Its already been established since the hold was implemented that once you have over 100 feedback and whatever else you wont receive the hold. Im sure the word is already around as to what to do if you get the hold. Some people get the hold, others dont and even if everyone posted when they stop receiving the hold what does that give us? A ton of raw data that may show some correlations but its still useless because we cannot infer causality.

So does the "trick" to release the funds ever result in a limited account? or has this been tested yet?

yaw1800 02-25-2009 11:29 PM

It WILL RESULT IN THIS LETTER:

A Message Regarding Your PayPal Account (KMM315820950V84628L0KM)

Dear xxx ,

As part of our commitment to offering a safe transaction network for all
of our valued members, we regularly screen account activity. During one
of these screenings, we reviewed your account and determined that the
activity associated to your eBay or PayPal accounts poses an inherent
risk to the overall security of our network. Unfortunately, due to this
risk, we have determined that we are no longer able to offer the use of
our services to you.

Although you are no longer able to utilize PayPal services, you may
still log into your PayPal account to review the information associated
to your use of our services for a limited time.

In accordance with PayPal’s User Agreement, the balance of your PayPal
account will be held for 180 days to protect PayPal against the risk of
reversal stemming from buyer claims, chargebacks, or other reversal
rights that may have been assigned to a consumer outside of PayPal and
eBay’s policies. After the180-day period has passed, any remaining
funds will be available to you for withdrawal, less any additional
amounts owed to PayPal or eBay.

Additionally, eBay will charge any amounts you have not previously
disputed to the billing method currently on file and you will be
credited for any listings that were ended.

While we regret having to make this decision, please understand that the
decision was based on criteria set forth in the User Agreements for both
PayPal and eBay. You can view our User Agreements in their entirety by
using links located at the footer of each of our websites.

Please do not reply to this email, as this mailbox is not monitored and
you will not receive a response. If you seek further clarification
regarding your account access, please contact PayPal by visiting the
Help Center and clicking "Contact Us.”

We thank you for your prompt attention and cooperation with this matter.

Sincerely,

Account Review Department

A few hours later, your ebay goes down......

Here We Go Again 02-25-2009 11:37 PM

So how can you say that using the "trick" is the direct reason you got limited?
I have been using the "trick" for MANY months on MANY accounts and have NOT been limited even once.

I personally think it had a little bit to do with you selling practices and withdraw practices.

aking 02-25-2009 11:47 PM

Yea, that was my next question. You can get that letter in result of any actions deemed "suspicious" by paypal. How did you come to the conclusion that it was from the "trick?"

GreenBean 02-25-2009 11:50 PM

Only because HWGA & a few others know lottsa tricks:yar:
