"don't recognize your device" timeframe?

Got this message when trying to buy on ebay (that's a new one to me)

Don't have a legit # attached to the account (because I didn't think i needed one to just buy on ebay, live and learn)

Is there an amount of time that can go by that would let me buy on ebay, or am i screwed with this account?

Try back within a few hours or a couple of days. It tends to dissipate after some time.
