Jan 1, Tax ID requests
 

Okay it is Jan 1 so I just want to get some information straight about the Tax ID/ SSN request. I want to make sure whatever info I have gathered from the forums from the past few years is still up to date since this is my first year with many accounts I plan on reusing in 2016 that have gotten the Tax ID in 2015.

I know typically you get a SSN request during the year, and on Jan 1 of the next year the request goes away. My questions are:

1) When do the limits reset if you got a Tax ID request later in the year, like in Decemeber? Do they still reset Jan 1?

2) When the Tax ID resets, how do you know? Does the little icon by the notifications button at the top of your PP screen go away? Or do you just start selling?

3) I have 2 accounts where I DID NOT get limited for Tax ID, but I DID get a SECOND email notification warning me that I will be limited if I do not provide SSN. Will this account reset like the others even though I have sold until the second email warning?

This worries me, nodeal.

Did the email say SSN only or are there other options. Important info.

Need that explained, please.

The email asked me for SSN or EIN. It was a legit SSN/EIN request from pp.

Usually the process goes Tax ID request email #1, Tax ID request email #2, then Tax ID limitation where I cannot receive payments, I am only allowed to withdraw money.

I checked, all my accounts still have the SSN request notice as of today. Majority of them got a request in December, at which point I stopped selling on them.

That request could stay on there for six more months or it could go away in a few weeks.

Does this request mean I am good to go to start selling and my Tax ID limits have been reset now that it is Jan 1? Or I still need to stay off selling on the account until the request goes away?

All my accounts that have been limited for tax request (6 or7) are still limited, I'm hoping they go away soon as many are now top rated.

Could be months. You can call paypal and see what they can do.

They usually stick until the 1099k's are sent to people near the end of January. That has been how I have seen it the past few years.

I have 2 accounts that are still Limited due to the Tax ID Questions. Hoping that since this is the 1st business day of 2016 the lift will magically lift!!!

I am new to this and haven't had this happen yet...can you just apply for an EIN and turn the Paypal account into a business account? or does all the info have to match up to what you already entered for the Paypal account (I used a variation of my name). Just looking ahead to the future for when this happens to me.

very curious too. I have an account that has had 2 SSN requests and every time I log into Paypal, the first thing that pops up is the SSN reminder. Hoping this will go away soon because it's making me feel uneasy.

You can always call to get it removed.

It's pretty black & white when it comes to this. If you had the request because of the IRS request then they can't (even though some reps will) make excuses about not removing the soft limitation.

Of course like everyone else said you can always just wait it out..
