PayPal wants a SSN/ EIN for Tax ID Information. If you don't plan on bringing in over 20K grossed on the account I wouldn't mess with it, at all.
Pretty sure a Passport Number doesn't qualify as Tax ID Information. While it might be good to gain trust with PayPal, it doesn't give them the ability to send you the 1099-K. The SSN/ EIN is what that information is for, other then them just wanting to know everything about you so they can ban/ limit your account and black list all your information. This is like saying is your Drivers License # a substitute for a SSN, no. If there was any other option for a SSN/ EIN we would all be using it.
The other question, I'm not sure if they can't link your Passport to your full SSN. They might be able to via public records but I highly doubt it maybe the last four of your SSN at best. You can't just go around and find someone's SSN via an ID #. I'm sure someone else has more information on this though. |
