Why does PayPal keep asking me if I am using a public wifi?

I noticed a couple of my accounts got a soft limitation on them, and when I called to see what was going on I was asked if I was using a public wifi. I use my home wifi (Charter) and I login to my router and change the MAC address and reset the router every time I switch accounts. I also always log my IP address. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

That's strange...
I suppose your IP changes everytime you reboot the router, right?

Also, is your connection protected with a password and are you 100% sure that you're the only one who uses paypal via your internet connection?
And.. do you clean up browser cookies/history after each PP acc logout?

Do you pay Charter (Spectrum) directly for Residential service?

Be aware that sometimes Comcast, Cox, and possibly Charter may share your connection with third parties (i.e. to provide a value-added service to their customers). Supposedly this is a separate segment (vlan) off your personal router that is used only for their own subscribers, or those they have a "roaming" agreement with to use their own wifi network.

Here's a link that explains a bit more:

Although it's unlikely your personal connection is being used by others without you being aware of it, you should nevertheless check with your provider to see if this is really the case. Also double check to make sure your wifi security settings are properly set. If you have doubts, you might be better off dumping the Charter provided modem/router and buy your own that you have 100% control of.

They're flailing around in the dark trying to find some excuse for the limitation, and that one sounds pretty harmless, so give it tothem, say, 'sorry, I checked my account at a local Starbucks, I didn't know it would be a problem', let them give you the green light then move on.

The less reason you give them to dig around in your account the happier you'll be.

If they start digging maybe they'll find a real flag, like an address that belong to another member or some evidence of stealth.
