Instant payments

I am trying to understand why some of my PayPal payments from eBay sales are instant and some aren't. Anyone know the secret to constant instant payments? I just had a payment for over $1000 come through instant payment, then another had 21 day hold. Same category....

Happens sometimes for a long while now. Nobody seems to know why.

Mysterious are EBay's ways.
Dont think theres a specific reason - just a glitch that happens every so often.
If anyone does figure out a pattern they'll make a bundle though.

My guess is the it has something to do with the sender's account. The more the account has more trust, ebay let's gives the blessing to be instant.

Sometime paypal rely on account and release the payment right away

Certainly seems to be something that is happening more and more the last 5 or 6 months or so.

They (paypal) seem to keep you on your toes so you don't rely on set patterns. It helps to 'deter' scammers in theory. Same as the constant switching between 2/24/72 hour withdrawals.

Re: Instant payments

Its nothing to do with trust.
Ebay has their regulations and minimum requirements to have those holds removed and from time to time those are bypassed because of a glitch.
Dont read too much into it - unless you can find an actual pattern and test it out to confirm it holds true in all scenarios.

Why do you keep referring to ebay?

It is paypal that decides if you get the money with no holds at the end of the day, even if ebay have already decided to remove all holds their end.

Re: Instant payments

Its both of them actually.
Its an integrated system between both those companies - and has been since the day they started with these holds years ago.

Actually, no it isn't both of them. What may of happened years ago is not relevant to the present

Slokor is right on this one

PayPal can hold your funds of their own volition

They can also hold the funds on behalf of eBay

When both eBay and PayPal both decide individually that holds do not need to be in place you get instant payments.

So how is this any different from my point?

As I said it is paypals decision at the end of the day if you get funds with no holds. Paypal can overrule an ebay decision when ebay remove holds from your incoming payments. The final decision will always be with paypal.

Re: Instant payments

You had suggested that only PayPal decide when funds are instant or held. That is incorrect.

eBay can request that funds are held and PayPal will comply, so even though PayPal themselves would be happy to give instant access to funds the funds are still held.

A common example of this is when a someone has had a PayPal account for a long time but has never used for selling on with eBay

If said person gets funds from say their website / invoicing ect then they would get instant access to the funds

When the same person sells their first item on eBay and get paid via PayPal then they would get holds. This is because eBay has requested the holds.

You then only get instant access to funds when both eBay and PayPal are happy

One factor is payments from overseas customers, they sometimes are not subject to the hold
