PayPal Account Limited Requesting for SSN for Tax Reporting bc $20,000 or 200 Items
 

So, my paypal in the end of last year had the dreaded:

"We will limit your account if you don't provide Tax ID or SSN"

I never reached $20,000.00 & subsequently they left me alone after the beginning of the year.

Just recently they sent me another notice saying to provide it and now when logging in, it prompts me to add so my account wouldn't get limited.

It did finally get limited but the only thing that I couldn't do was *close my account.

Just recently about 2 days ago now I can't receive any money!

So I've been screwed for the last copuple days including today. I haven't received any money.

The eBay/PayPal are stealth but it's under a friend of mine and he has offered to give me his social to fix it --but I'd rather take the other route and keep it stealth...!

Any pointers as what I should do?

I sell small ticket items 1.89 2.99 etc etc and sometimes some items sell for 79.99 or 39.99 or 59.99

I haven't reached 20k in sales but I def. have reached 200 sales.

I am figuring my argument is I haven't reached 20 in sales and that this is my hobby and don't wish to have to report to the IRS or give my social..

What do you guys think,,, any pointers? :help:

I doubt that PayPal will budge on this. They have to follow the IRS rules. If they cannot confirm your tax reporting ID, then they - if they want to allow you to continue to receive funds - must withhold 30% of your gross payments and turn them over to the IRS. PayPal is not likely to do that.

You DO have one other option. Get an EIN for an LLC. You can get it under your LLC and business name - PayPal will never see your real name. That way, your friend does not have to be involved in this at all and you will be able to sell however much you want.

Question: The paypal is come with the stealth ebay account. So all info is not mine. I can add EIN to file tax? The 1099 Tax form given by paypal at the end of the year is not going to be my name on it. Is that OK? And if i used the EIN for one of my paypal, can i use it with the other paypal? Thank you!
