So all new accounts that haven't had much selling activity get this crap (though it's actually a good fraud prevention mechanic) to start. Bout how long, or how many positive feedbacks until it's lifted?

normally if you ebay account is 90 days old!

Anoter point is that holds can be put back on to accounts as well at any time.

No correct answer for this. It can take a few week or 3 months, even longer sometimes before they remove the holds!

Mine was lifted as of yesterday, it took about six weeks, but I shipped same day, 30 day refund.
And my account is 3 months old. With 23 great feedback

To add, also if you ship the same day, your funds are released within four days after delivery, sometimes 3. But that was just mine, so I can't speak for anyone else

Best thing to do is, upload tracking details, ask buyers for positive feedback, dispatch same day/next day, just keep tip top first few weeks of sales.

I've never begged for feedback, but I don't see how any harm could be done by doing so.

I don't really see the harm in asking for feedback to be honest.

I do it once if someone has not left feedback after about a month without having ever run into issues.

I will just reiterate, for the wise community out there. If its a new account, there is no harm in asking buyers for feedback, once you've got 10 ratings and a nice star next to your name, lay off a bit. But otherwise this is a great way to get the ball rolling on a new account.

Also don't ask more than once. Can get very annoying for buyers.

That alone won't likely be enough unless you are one of the lucky few who get to generate some ebay accounts with no ebay holds, just paypal holds.....in which case it would be 60 days and 10 sales anyway.

Vast majority of accounts with ebay holds will be $250/£165+ in sales PLUS 25 transactions PLUS 90 days (+ 3 for luck).

According to ebay the minimum requirements Are:
1. 90 days since the first sale.
2. 25 successful transactions.
3. A total value of at least $250 in total on those transactions.
Mind you these are just the minimum transactions and those limits can still be there for a while after that point - although usually not for long.
