Paypal prepaid mastercard, how does it work?
 

Hello,

How does paypal prepaid mastercard available on shops everywhere in US works?

1. I link the card to paypal account? What is required, just login, pass and SSN?
2. Then I can withdrawn paypal balance just by using the card at ATM?

Prepaid or the Debit card?

Debit card uses the funds in your balance and yes you can withdraw from an ATM as usual. Spending limits are never going to be more than $5000.00 per card and you can get two cards.

Prepaid, I have no idea what that is.

If you are referring to the PP cards that they sell at stores and such. Those are mainly just like any other gift card. I don't think you could link it for withdrawals from PP, but you should be able to put whatever is on the card to your PP account.:pry:

You can buy these in shops anywhere, link to paypal and load it directly from PP account.

Then it most likely will work if all details match. Does this card offer a Checking/Routing Number?

Yes but it these cards are specially issued by paypal and they offer instant loading from paypal account.

Interesting, i have never seen these before. They may prove useful, but my concern is that they may bring unwanted attention to a stealth account. There is a whole lot of fine print (possibly a review flag) associated with these cards. If anyone has used these with stealth, i would like to hear about the experience.:rant:

I believe the one that you purchase in stores are just temporary cards that you have to register. Once registered they send you the permanent card in the mail.

With the prepaid card, your funds are not directly debited from your PP balance when you use the card (which is what the Paypal Business Debit Mastercard does - treating your PP account like a checking account). The Paypal Prepaid card works like many other prepaid debit cards, where you can load cash to it at retail locations, etc. The thing that it has that is different is its connection with Paypal.

When you activate the Paypal Prepaid card, you also connect it to your Paypal account. This makes is such that you can load funds to the card from your Paypal account balance instantly. You can only load $300 per day and $2000 total per 30 days from Paypal to the card. See the fine print below:

2 Money transfers may only be made in the name of a valid PayPal Prepaid Cardholder and your PayPal Prepaid Card must be activated and linked with your PayPal Account at paypal.com. Only one (1) PayPal Prepaid MasterCard may be linked to one (1) PayPal Account. If a member of your household has another PayPal Prepaid MasterCard, another PayPal Account in that person's name is needed. Transfers from the PayPal Account to the PayPal Prepaid Card are limited to the amount of funds available in your PayPal Account and may not exceed $300 a day/$2,000 per rolling 30 days. Overdrafts are not available. Money cannot be moved directly from individual funding sources like credit or debit cards, bank accounts, etc., attached to the PayPal Account to the PayPal Prepaid MasterCard Account. Money transfers from the PayPal Account to your PayPal Prepaid MasterCard cannot be reversed or cancelled. The PayPal Prepaid MasterCard is issued by The Bancorp Bank pursuant to license by MasterCard International Incorporated and may be used everywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted. The Bancorp Bank, Member FDIC. Please review the Cardholder Agreement for more details about the costs, terms, and conditions associated with use of the Card.

I had the prepaid card for my old legit account before it got shut down. The card is certainly useful for accessing your funds instantly, despite its limitations.

I just received a Prepaid card in the mail that I'm consider trying to connect to my stealth account. I'm quite wary about what issues it may cause though.

My thinking is that I may try to supply my EIN rather than SSN when I activate the card.

If that doesn't work, I'm still thinking that it is possible that is safe to use my SSN to activate the card. The reason being that the card is owned / operated by the Bankcorp Bank, not Paypal. So if I activate the card using my SSN, I don't believe that linking the card to my PP account would allow PP access to see my SSN through the card (in the same way that they don't see your SSN from your bank)

My stealth account has my real name, address, and phone number (since all changed since my old account went down), so mis-matching won't be an issue.

If anyone has any insight into this - and any potential risks / problems I'm overlooking, it would certainly be appreciated.
