Sticky? Paypal asking Social Security, ITIN, EIN....
 

We should really make a sticky with this topic. I see a lot of threads and a lot of mismatching information.

From what I gathered if you are on pace for for anything close to 200 OR $20,000 paypal will ask for that information.

My questions are
(1) I am at about ~170 sales but maybe only $3K. I won't hit $20K or anything close to it, but if I continue I will go over 200 sales. Will paypal block my account if I go over 200 sales but stay well under $20K? Or will they only block if I go to 200 sales and close to $20K?

(2) If my account doesn't get limited, will this request for this info go away in January of next year when number of sales and dollar amount is reset? The new email from today title reads "Second reminder: Avoid limitations to your PayPal account. Please provide your Tax ID number" hope there isn't three reminders or anything like that.

(3) Saw threads where people gave paypal made up SSN given the format (date and place match) is correct, anyone done this or recommend this?

(4) (tax question) If I make EIN and give to paypal (but will be under 200 sales and $20K, so no 1099 form) do I still need to file taxes? I am guessing yes since I have an EIN.
