New ssn *please read*

Heyy...

Alright so long story short I have been a victim of Identity Theft. Someone opened a bank account under my name with my SSN. I've already taken necessary steps to freeze everything, and it's within a month of the account opening so I caught it early.

I was told that I should be able to get a new SSN due to this occurring. It's not 100% official, I've never dealt with identity theft before so I don't know how exactly getting a new SSN will happen.

Lets say I do, my immiediate thought was I'm blacklisted on Paypal with SSN. What if I create a new account under my name (even though blacklisted) with a new SSN?!? Would that not allow me to appear as a new person? I could send them whatever docs they need to verify me but if I have a new SSN, unless they are able to see I somehow got a new pne (which I doubt) could I not get a personal Paypal account again?

I have 2 stealths with EIN's, no worries there but it'd be nice to have another back up that's at least "real". I say "real" because although my EINS are of course official businesses, it's always possible I will have to in the future provide them a full SSN. Who knows with Paypal.....

Love to hear feedback, sorry for lengthy post

UPDATE:

I should be getting a new # just need to get docs from the bank that the account was opened. I checked on the USS.gov and it appears my current SSN isn't destroyed which I figured but the # is still changed? So Paypal shouldn't know this if for instance a bank wouldn't, right?

Sorry to tell you but SSN Admin will not give you a new SSN over this. It have to be real extreme in order for them to do it. Here is something from the SSN website-->> victim of identity theft continues to be disadvantaged by using the original number;

Even with a lawyer I was not able to do it

Also even with a new SSN it is not really new. They cross ref it with your old one

Check this out: https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/3401...ecurity-number

Sorry to tell you, but you will not be getting a new number and even with a new number it is still connected to your old number

After I wrote this I read that. It's just frustrating because what, I freeze the 3 credit bureaus to unfreeze them and possibly have them use my SSN again? If I know someone has it, WHY THE F*** would they not change it? So silly...

Thanks though

You have to be able to show REAL detrimental monetary damages have ALREADY occurred. The fact that they MAY occur means nothing.

My best friend is an IRS auditor and I asked him this question and he laughed so hard and said, "Do you know how many scams would go on if they issued new SSN to everyone who was a victim of identity fraud?

Made sense to me!

FYI you can mathematically hash out people SSN with just the state of birth and year of birth (think look up birth records then cross check where the person now lives) a calculator, excel sheet and a little time. I had another friend who could figure out about 3 a day and his accuracy rate was pretty high! Add to that the tens of thousands of people who freely hand their SSN out over the phone every day and its a joke.

So it looks like LifeLock is in your future........if you haven't heard of it look it up now!
