PayPal: Can they tell if an account is checking or savings?
 

As far as I can tell since paypal updated their look this week there is not an option to skip "add debit card" when creating an account any more. It also seem even though the stealth book says to add vanilla card as credit, it makes no difference if you add it as debit... So far for me at least....

I'm wondering if the same applies to bank accounts. Can they really tell weather it's checking or savings? I read a thread a while back on credit unions from a few years ago where the OP said it didn't matter and paypal couldn't tell the difference.

Does anyone know the facts?

Right now I'm leaning towards a 90% chance they cant tell but would like some solid evidence or at least hear more of others experiences.

They can't. Only information they can see is the name of the owner of the account when they retrieve their microdeposits from your account after they verify. The may or may not be able to tell what bank you are using since routing numbers are similar but other than that no they cannot.

You might run into trouble down the road using a savings to withdraw though
