US Phone Number
 

I've recently moved from the US to Italy but would like to keep using my US PayPal account. I see I cannot add a foreign phone number and therefore need a US number, the problem is my AT&T gophone number does not support international roaming so it does not work abroad. I've tried using a Skype phone number and apps like Talkatone but they won't accept automated calls and texts. Any ideas on what I can do?

Is this your personal account or is a stealth one?

Is there a problem with the account you now have to solve with a valid phone number? What is it?

Ciao! Its my personal account, I've had it since 2012 or 2013 and its always been in good standing since. The account is fully working at this time, but I'm just worried about something happening which requires phone or sms verification.

I have no direct experience of such a situation but personally I will get in touch with PayPal somehow explaining the situation and see how to proceed.
This to me sounds much better than hiding behind a VPN or a phone/text service which might ring some alarm.
Anyaway, wait for some other experienced member to chime in before making any move.

Did you already use the US account on Italian IP?

Agreed, I guess what I need is a US SIM that allows international roaming. That way I'd be able to receive verification texts and calls over here. Unfortunately my AT&T GoPhone number cannot do that.

Anyway, yes, I've been using the account for a few months now here in Italy with no issues so far, I mainly use it for eBay buying & selling.

You can always change the phone number on the ebay account to a google voice one. Shouldn't be any problem using that number anywhere in the world.

Doesn't google voice work only in the US? Also, wouldn't PayPal recognize it as a Google Voice number? I've read that they don't like VOIP numbers.

Google voice works anywhere in the world.
If you were concerned about opening a new account id say dont go with a google voice but since this is an established account you dont need to worry abut it.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how to go about this. In order to get a GV number I need a US phone number to link it to. This is what its asking:

"To verify this number, Google Voice will send you a text message containing a 6-digit code.You can also verify by phone."

The problem is I can't receive that code or automated call as my current US phone number does not work abroad and GV only accepts US numbers so I can't use my Italian one either.

I've also had issues getting a US number, then I found this guide. I haven't had time to try it for myself, but it looks pretty good.
