| | | BRod1976 | 05-12-2009 12:13 AM | PayPal confirm Location HELP It seems that here recently on any paypal limitation I get it is asking for me to confirm my location with a land based phone. I use tracfone with EBay no problems, but cant use a cell for this limitation step. I have tried 2 different accounts with vumbers and the call did not come through. I had the Vumbers number forwarded to my cell and tried the vumber out both times with another phone and it worked, but paypals calls didn't come through. Any suggestions on how to get this right? |
| tnd512 | 05-12-2009 03:12 AM | hmmmm how long this happen to you ? i got the same problem before, just wait 3-4 business days & you'll receive a letter from PP in your mail box with 6 Digit PIN # ... Get that PIN & enter it into your PP, same way like when you confirm your bank account. Good Luck. |
| lakeman | 05-12-2009 06:58 AM | Vumber no longer works for ebay. You must use a landline phone, do you have any friends with one? |
| SevnSins | 05-12-2009 07:07 AM | lakeman,
We can still use prepaid cell phones, right? Also, I thought someone had already found a vumber replacement? I could be mistaken though. |
| lakeman | 05-12-2009 07:34 AM | Yes you can use prepaid phones for paypal and ebay but not to confirm your location. Yes there are a few virtual number services that work. There's a few threads that discuss them. |
| BRod1976 | 05-12-2009 09:06 AM | The whole letter in the mailbox thing would be great......If I lived at Taco Bell |
| NO ID | 05-12-2009 10:07 AM | ^^lol me too |
| gurusgrafx | 05-12-2009 10:31 AM | Taco Bell.. lol
bribe one of the day shift to be on the lookout for your letter. |
| BRod1976 | 05-12-2009 04:07 PM | Not a bad idea. Im seriously considering it. |
| BRod1976 | 05-12-2009 04:12 PM | So basically Ive got to find this virtual phone company that nobody will reveal and use it, or borrow someones landline? Could it be because I am forwarding the vumber to my cell?
Some people get frustrated with all the changes PayPal and ebay makes. Not me, I like the challenge. Dont know what I would do if things went perfect all the time. Would probably be bored........oh and alot richer too. Seriously, thanks guys for all the help. I thought my ebay days were over til I found this forum. Keep up the good work. |
They should stop confirming location by phone if they insist on land line. I dropped land line many, many years ago and never missed it, until I signed on again just so I can have AOL dial up. That's the only reason. |
| gurusgrafx | 05-12-2009 04:28 PM | ^^^^ yeah I haven't had a land line in years. neither has my mother, most of my friends and even their parents and I'm talking retires here. if older people are getting rid of landlines that should say something. |
I got rid of my landline a couple years ago too.
Brod, I ran into the same problem myself. Trac prepaid cells, vumber, and Skype (owned by Ebay) don't work. There are plenty of call forwarding service that do work, but we're hesitant to post in public because Paypal might notice or a large influx of scammers might cause the provider to block Paypal voluntarily. Just sent you a PM.
A sticky listing services that do not work might be a good idea. What does everyone think? |
| static | 08-29-2009 07:20 PM | If anyone decides to make a list of services that DONT work to confirm location on paypal, they can add t-mobile "to go" prepaid service to that list. I tried to use that today to get an account off limitation, and it didn't work, saying that cell phones can't be used. Now I really need a "land line" solution = ( |

| static | 08-29-2009 08:50 PM | From what I've been reading, it seems as if call forwarding can work, but paypal not allowing cell phones to confirm location seems to be a relatively new thing, so a lot of the threads about phone verification may be out of date. Also, a lot of the threads about phone verification are UK threads, so I'm not sure what info from them is applicable in the states.
I've never used any call forwarding service before, so I really don't know whats involved. I'm leaning towards trying "ringcentral", as it seems to be mentioned more often than others, but I'm still not really sure. Since I only need to use it once, to try to lift a limitation, I don't want to pay much...hopefully I can find a way to work it out in a free trial...we'll see. If anyone else out there has any tips, please let me know. Thx! |
