Normally, this is not an issue unless there is a problem with the phone # or it was recently updated. In some cases, even the new number on the account will not work because PayPal checks the subscriber name for the telephone number against the CNAM database managed by the carrier.
The most common result for a mismatch is an error to the effect: "This number doesn't appear to be registered in your name.".
This error can even show up even when the phone number IS in your name. Oftentimes it goes away on it's own after a few days. In cases were the ORIGINAL phone number was changed, it can take several MONTHS to be recognised.
