| | | | | ebayhateluv | 12-25-2007 01:35 PM | VERIFY--EBAY + PAYPAL CALLS--with EASE! HI:
Heres what I have been using- and it works!
Buy a inexpensive USB PHONE.. thats it.
**IT will come with of course your keypad, to touch tone the code ebay and/or paypal wants
*IT will of course come with the mic + headset--as its built into the phone..
** They used to sell a Gadget to do this- but I've found this is less expensive + works better...
When that call comes in--
a.) If using AIM--your AIM console must be open-- if you upgraded to a Version of 6 or later- the keypad does NOT always pop up.. so the call disconnects
b.) IF using another call service online-in conjunction with your email provider- just have your email open when the call comes in..
c.) This works ESPECIALLY well with AIM PHONELINE..
NOTE: LASt month- they were asking you to hit the # (pound key)-
as of last night- it was the "0" (zero) button. So, they do change up-
**The NICe thing about the Aim Phone line- Even though its 14.95 now-- I know I can make that back in the 1st sale- so the investment is Wise- and they give you an EXACT number for your area.... SO_ Paypal does NOT detect its a cell NOR if you forward it to YOur cell,,
Believe me on this.. I've done in over + over again...
(MY problem was locating the Aim console, finding the keypad in time, and then when I upgraded- as they suggest --the keypad on line disappears-- so you have to UNinstall-
then go back to version 5 ,etc...BUT- with the cheap USB phone- you're READY--no matter the phone line you have.. + its for the future..
(right now- ebay has over 1,000 listings for usb phone)-- |
| loveandhate | 12-27-2007 12:30 PM | when ebay calls, what happens exactly? i thought they just check to see that the number is a working number, and not out of order or a fax line or something. i mean, what if you arent home to take the call? |
| super stealth | 12-27-2007 05:06 PM | I guess we have to start discussing our options since private phone is dead as of the 31st. |
| Dutch | 12-27-2007 06:10 PM | Now I know what Nietzsche meant when he said, "God is dead." |
| ivegotinfo | 12-27-2007 08:26 PM | Toll Free and Local City Phone Numbers - Worldwide Virtual Phone Numbers, Call forwarding, www.jetnumbers.com GotVMail - Virtual PBX, VMail, 800 Numbers, Virtual Office, Toll Free Numbers, Voice Mail Disposable, Temporary Phone Numbers | Private, Anonymous Telephone Services
make them all forward to your cell so you are always "home"
ebay makes you press a number when they call you, and its always a different one so you cant be automated |
| Dutch | 12-27-2007 08:29 PM | I travel a bit and my "alias address" is different than my area code on my real cell phone.
Does the code also record back to eBay the caller id name and phone number? |
| gotcats | 12-28-2007 12:07 PM | Well I do know that once I called Paypal and used the blocking code *67 but they immediately knew who I was! |
| ebayhateluv | 12-28-2007 01:25 PM | Yes, Paypal has sophisticated equipment- they can tell if youre on a cell or not also when they do the Verif call..they also immediately check the number against the general area- to see if its a known number/number that belongs to that area...if not-they send you a letter + make you verify that way |

| ebay100 | 01-01-2008 01:20 PM | This one looks the Best.. says 30day FREE trial? Did they charge you?
EB:confused: |
| Ballsack | 01-01-2008 02:44 PM | Yes they charged me. It's like a trick. They say they WON'T CHARGE your card in bold letters for trying the service and just need your CC# to verify but they charge! |

It comes with 50 minutes for AT&T phones and the minutes last 90 days and I think there's an activation fee. |
| ivegotinfo | 01-03-2008 06:02 PM | most forwarding places are under 10$... and they forward to a cell phone you already have...and you dont have to carry around like 10 cell phones if you have a lot of accounts. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-04-2008 12:28 AM | hi- for some reason-- when i tried the paypal verif with a cell--they knew--but ebay does not..but on the weekends..the ebay calls come from paypal??? why/how--dont know.. |
| heather | 01-04-2008 10:20 AM | Has anyone tried numbr.com for paypal? Wonder if it matters that it has an extension number? |
| poopdeck | 01-04-2008 03:32 PM | We got a Grand Central (Which is now Google) number and have it forwarded to our cell phone. We tested it with our home phone---
When you get a call for the first time GRand Central picks up before ringing your phone and asks for a name--it then rings your phone and asks if you want to accept the call from the name given---(their phone number will display)
In the case of ebay verification the name you get should be the audible automated 4 digit code you will enter in ebay for verification. Of course I haven't tried this yet but it should work fine--I had a voicemail service (privatephone which is now gone) when ebay did their verify on me and it worked fine with that.
Paypal is a different animal however which requires a real time connection (voicemail wont work in this case). This is paramount if you are using a bogus address where they would send the code to. But of course you can't win with Paypal because if you get verified by them you need to send them your SS# and DL# and that sucks Whitmans you know what!
Grand Central will remember the name associated with the number so future calls from that number will be directly sent to your cell phone which will ring, when you pick up the auctomated GC operator will ask if you want to receive the call from this person and press:
1 to accept the call
2 to send it to voice mail
3 send to vox and listen in on it
4 accept and record to vox
do nothing and it will go into voice mail.
This shold suffice the hungry ebay demon and its free! GrandCentral: The New Way to Use Your Phones |
So I "reserved" a number at GrandCentral. I seem to remember someone saying that even though GC is not open, that I should receive a number in 3 or 4 days? Would it just be best to "reserve" as many numbers as possible?
I really appreciate the great info you guys have shared so far! |
| ebayhateluv | 01-11-2008 09:21 PM | OR- you could get an invite from someone--THEN;
a.) INvite up to 10 friends (10 new ebay accts)-
b.) then those 10 -invite 10 friends, (100 more new ebay accts)- then those 10 invite 10 friends, 1,000 more ebay accts...YOu see how this works rapidly... |
Ahhh, I see. It is just like Gmail used to be.... If anyone feels like being generous, share the love! ;) |
Wow, I already got my GrandCentral account! Signed up, and like 2 hours later I got the email. This definitely seems like the way to go for a free local phone number. Hopefully they don't start charging after the Beta is over. |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-19-2008 12:16 PM | Hopefully it'll work for me...I just signed up a couple of hours ago. In the meantime if anyone would like to offer an invite I'll be happy to share mine here once I get in. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-19-2008 12:25 PM | Hi-Fyi for all new comers; Its not left on Voicemail for ebay-with ebay-the Bot says either (if you are expecting this call please press the # sign) Or- please press number 1 etc... |
I've got it forwarded to me cell... but what if I'm busy and miss the call? Is it over? |

| coolandcalm | 01-23-2008 12:55 AM | I got a number from tollfreecallforwarding to register a new account overseas; had it forwarded to my cell here in the US, but when they asked me to press "7" in order to get the code, it did not recognize that i was pressing 7. After 3 tries they hung up. Ebayhateluv maybe you can help me and anyone else having this problem out here? |

I recently listed my Tracfone number with eBay and PayPal on my ⊗⊗⊗⊗ account but they haven’t called me yet. So far so good?
Back in the day when my account was in good standing with both PayPal and eBay I remember getting upgraded to the PayPal Premier but before I could get upgraded I needed to receive that stupid automated phone call from PayPal, well they had my home number and was trying to call my home # but I forgot my home # was disconnected (non payment…sigh) so I ended up getting verified with my regular cell phone and they were cool with that. |

| ebay-sucks | 02-09-2008 05:28 PM | Tracfone did not work for me with PP, Tracfone did not work for me with Grand Central either for PP.
Does anyone have anything other then a landline that has worked for PP? |
| koalawash | 02-09-2008 05:30 PM | ebay-sucks,
So you're really saying that even the "real" tossabledigits numbers that had no extension, aren't working with eBay/Paypal anymore?? |
| ebay-sucks | 02-09-2008 05:38 PM | Do not know about ebay, I posted it didn't work with PP for me. |

Alfonso. http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7286/mailsck6.jpg | Do you understand that virtual numbers are not working with PP right now? Unless it can be forwarded to a phone that will be accepted by PP, so far the only thing that seems to work with PP verification is a real landline. |
| koalawash | 02-09-2008 05:47 PM | Wow thanks.. I'm gonna have to find something else. |

| koalawash | 02-14-2008 03:24 AM | So, wait.. if you have a landline you can have any "disposable" number just forward to that and it should still work? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:47 AM. | |
