Default Anyone ever use a payphone?

There is a pay phone (not many of those left these days) just down the street from me. I was thinking of placing a call to my cell from it to get the number off of caller id and then try calling it back to see if it rings.
It's been awhile since I had to create a new account, but I got shut down overnight because the paypal account needs more information. I don't want to give it out, because I doubt that I'll ever get it restored and will need the "real" information to set up another one.
I'll report back on the pay phone number.
Also, can't you verify the phone number right away, rather than having to wait for them to call you randomly?

when they had me verify my phone I clicked call now and they called within a minute. Maybe have someone click it from home and be waiting at the payphone. Just a thought.

wouldnt it be easier to get a virtual number? that way if ebay/paypal/customer needs to call you in the future you wont get suspended for giving a random phone number?

Default How is this for weird

I gave it a try and an actual number showed up on my cell's caller id. When I went to call it back it picked up and sounded like a fax machine. I could see getting a recording or something, but that whirring fax sound?
Here's another thought. My cell carrier has an add a line I think for ten bucks a month.

bigrab54 you should email ebay and tell them you did that and it didn't work and see their response and post the response here.

I find I normally have to email ebay once a day for several days before they actually read an email I send them and give a reply related to it.

my paypal account is currently a pay phone number and i have done this for ebay as well. its great if you have a laptop. You should also see if your cell phone can be used as a modem. Most sprint and version phones allow for this these days. All I did was plugged up my phone to allow me to log on went and got the cell phone number and then did call now and picked up. worked liek a charm. Also look into tracfones. I have used those too. and they are quite cheap now. about 12 for the phone but you have to buy some minutes

Heres a Trick (or Treat)..
Was at the Library yesterday.. Had an elderly lady at the counter.
--set up my new acct- got the GC number, needed a Forward number to activate..
-- I went up to the counter- got the Brochure, got the Library ph number.
--hit call now-- wasnt fast enough- the lady picks up-- said "dont know how that was, asking to press your confirmation code", she said shes not answering if they call back..
--- went back to my pc did it again..(saw it was 62 to punch in)-- flew back to the desk, told her i'd answer it- she said good, tired of getting up.. i punched in 62,
-- got the GC number conf!--acct opened!
(will xfer once i convert to a seller act)-
--Just thought it was a funny story-- wanted to share

yes i tried the phone box and it didnt work, i think it must depend on the payphone but a bt public telephone box doesnt work when you have to press button 1-9 it doesnt register.

Hi

This is my first post

I am going to give you the answer why it will no longer work in pay phones

As bigrab5 said it worked for his friend around 6 months ago and that is correct, however BT in the UK have upgraded the exchange and since that the pay phones have lost the ability to be able to recognize the touch tones when you press them on an incoming call

It has nothing to do with ebay

I cannot speak for the US or any where else but when you sign up for a sellers account in the UK you must add a card or go through phone verification and in order for you to receive the 4 digit number you must press number 1 on the keypad if you cannot do this the call will end
