| | | siashay | 05-11-2008 10:56 AM | The Magic Jack - free phone calls? First of all Happy mothers days, Me and the girls went out last night and tied one on. It was one of those nights that you come home and turn on the t.v. and all that is on is infomercials. Anyways, I saw something cool last night. The Magic Jack. It is a little box thing you put on the computer then put the phone line on it. It is for free phone calls but you get a phone number with it and it is only $19 or free month trial. That is as cheap as one of those pre-paid phones. Maybe a good way to take in ebay phone calls:confused: |
| aspkin | 05-19-2008 12:40 PM | Sounds good, let us know how it goes! |
| Ballsack | 05-20-2008 10:26 PM | After reading a little about it, it seems this product will work for some but not others. If you get it you basically have to hope it works for you. |
| ebayhateluv | 06-18-2008 07:55 PM | HI: Ive just read an article on the Magic jack--(VOIP)- apparently theyre selling 6,000 units/day now??
Anyone else try this??
Heres the info: Cheap PC gadget for Internet calls selling well - Yahoo! News
p.s. Modee--See i used the search before i created a new thread--even though im in a hurry to get dinner done :) |
| John14789 | 06-18-2008 08:10 PM | I read about this magicjack thing for like 3 hours yesterday. They say they will give you a different area code aside from your own cities. One thing is that you have to have your computer on all the time for it to work. I really dont know if having your computer on for a long time without turning it off is bad, does anybody have their computer on 24/7? |
| GreenBean | 06-18-2008 08:18 PM | In our control room, we have x3 PCs on 24/7. These are used to do reports, surf etc. My boss looks after them. Never have problems except when I spill tea over the keyboards. That's user error, however. LOL. |
| ebayhateluv | 06-18-2008 08:19 PM | Yes- we have 7 pcs in the house--all of them on 24/7--all plugged into modems, routers, etc..on line always---I used to think that way also--Like when the old tvs had tubes--
Your grandmom used to tell you--turn the tv off so the tube wont burn--nowadays with kids, the tvs run constantly--
As for pcs--I believe the newer ones do not even get that burn in anymore in the monitor.. |
| John14789 | 06-18-2008 08:21 PM | LOL. Im going to try one of these magicjacks and tell you guys how it went. I pay $1300 every year for my phone bill through att. $20 is incredible. Will let you guys know. Only thing is that I dont know if the magicjack will be using the ip address or if it will interfere with ebay |
| aspkin | 06-18-2008 10:38 PM | The server that runs this site is located in a datacenter in which there are thousands of other servers running at the same time 24/7 non stop. As long as your computer is kept cool and well ventilated, it can run 24/7 without an issue. Oh but make sure you turn monitors off if you're not using them or have a good screen saver up, monitors if left on for long periods of time without a screen saver can burn out. I've seen several go. |
| Bambi | 07-19-2008 02:04 AM | Magic Jack I have 2 magic jacks they work great they have call forwarding and voice mail your computer does not have to be on for the voice mail to pickup also you can forward all your calls and you can have any area code you want you can also change the area code one time for free it is a great product and I think it would be a great phone for ebay and it's cheap.;) |

| helpme1 | 08-22-2008 05:02 AM | Magic jacks works great because it gives you access to calls with call forwarding and when ebay called me when i forwarded my calls to my cell phone ..IT WORKED ;) so far as quality it is not that great :( but it works for what it is needed for and you dont have to pay amonthly bill :D |
| boondoggle | 08-22-2008 06:42 AM | anyone know if it works for uk paypal? |
| MOONCRICKET | 08-28-2008 12:54 AM | I have been using MagicJack and I am pretty happy with it. The call quality is really good. Comparable to a typical landline, and definitely better than a cellphone.
Here's something I noticed: If you plug the magicJack drictly into the computer USB port, it works great. If you plug it into the included extension usb cord, the quality deteriorates. That's my only minor complaint about the thing. |

| juanlu | 01-30-2009 02:11 PM | I have tried it with dial up and it connects, but at a very low speed of 14.4 kbps. After a minute or so the connection drops..
Has anyone had any luck using magic jack with dialup? |

I just bought one today and i need to set it up for a confirm location with PP. |
| abibio2001 | 03-10-2011 02:34 AM | Its simple, it still works. I have one too.Just plug a phone box to the magicjack, plug in the majicjack to a usb port on your internet-connected computer and majicjack installs, after installation you are asked to register during which you select a number with any area code you like, you could also get vanity numbers too.Once done, you can start recieving calls including verification calls. You might want to first try recieving a call from maybe a family/friend before using with paypal to be sure you set it up right. |
| tszyuenc | 03-22-2011 05:11 PM | so can i register more than 1 number ?? i dont care if the old number will disable or wt, i just need new number so that i can create new gmail and ebay acc.
