Can I just change my home phone number?

Can anyone tell me if this is going to be ok? We have a home phone line that we never really use and the current number is attached to my last ebay acct. Can I just change the number on that phone line and be fine. I would rather do that go the Voip route or something else.

^ Yes as long as the phone number is different this is okay, even if the phone line is the same.
