So... Does Google Voice work?
 

I've been browsing the forums for the past few hours trying to find out if google voice works, I am getting mixed results on this. I usually buy prepaid phones to verify my eBay accounts. Can you really get 5 different numbers with a prepaid using google voice? How does this work exactly? Are you more likely to getcsuspended/limited?

Are there better options then using google voice?

I dont remember seeing any post that GV does not work.

Works fine for ebay.

If you are meaning for paypal location verification that is another issue.

Google voice app worked fine for me on my cell phone. I got a forwarding number in the area code of my stealth account. I called my house phone to verify my caller ID was correct (which it was) and then called up eB to straighten out an issue on my account.

The call was placed using the GV app on my cell phone over wifi, instead of my mobile provider.

GV is a great resource.

Typically as of now you can forward two GV #'s to a phone number.

I e managed to get 4 GV to 1 Real Number.

Yes, it works to verify an ebay seller account.

It doesn't work to verify paypal.

So then how do sellers verify the number on their paypal account?

That's a whole other demon that has no fix yet.

For ebay I would. For paypal, that is an issue right now and we know that your prepaids wont work for pp.

My prepaid cell phones (tracfones, verizon prepaids etc) have always worked on verifying my PayPal accounts. I just add the cell phone number and confirm it, they sent me a code through text and I enter it and thats that. Are you talking about verifying a landline?

Then what is your solution to the issues with confirming pp that so many have?

I have not had to confirm my location for several years but many here have and need the solution.

It has been posted that tracfones will not work with paypal location confirmation so do you have a different solution?

Nice tip. I used GV for PP and it hardly work. I though it does not work with EB too. Now I will give it a try :d

No access to Tracfone for me but the GV does work to setup the PP account. Confirming location - as MM78 and Sandy have pointed out - is another issue altogether.

Verizon prepaid absolutely no issues with Paypal verification. Not sure about the other prepaids.

GOOGLE VOICE:

So far I have 3 google voice numbers associated to 1 cell phone. I still have my husband's cell, daughter's sell and house line that I can use so I will be able to get plenty of google voice accounts. But, so far 3 to one line.

I DO NOT forward my google voice to my cell. I set up a google message, set the line to ring (this is important so that ebay doesn't get the message please wait while we locate the google voice subscriber). So when you call this google number, in rings 5 times then voicemail message specific to that number just like no one is home.

Then to place calls to ebay or paypal...

Easy breezy....I downloaded google voice app on my iphone. Log into the google voice account associated with the ebay account you need to call and dial ebay from inside the app, not from your regular phone key pad. I checked by calling my house to make sure that it showed my google caller id number and it did.

Google voice works fine. Especially once you past the initial stages for eBay. Limit increase 40-50 feedback.

I personally prefer to use tracfones to start accounts. But most the time I dump them after my account is good and strong 5-6 months in. And use google voice to save some money.

I have now 20 us stealth running with 20 gv numbers. No issues at all.

None are connected to a cell phone anymore. I just let it go to voicemail and call back if urgent.

I ran into issues creating so many google voice numbers from same ip/phone number. Sandy suggested to look at youtube for tutorials on how to by pass and it worked like a charm.

Yes. I have had "Brad" calling several eb accounts to congratulate me on my first sale. I had forgotten to turn off 'do not call' from eb settings.

He's nice though.

I added 'do not call from ebay' to my excel sheet.....reduce chances of being trapped.

Ha proper - also got a call from this "Brad" on a US account that turned to selling recently.

My customer service is managed by several people. They all sign with the same fictitious name. Common practice.

Where do we do this within our ebay accounts?

Do the following...

1. click on Accounts
2. select Communication Preferences
3. scroll down to Promotions and Surveys
4. expand the "show" link & uncheck the box that says "Phone updates and promotions"

Haha those "Brad" calls remind me of "TOM" from MySpace several years back. Funny as hell.

Is google voice not available in the UK ?

GV,a problem for PP? Since when? This has never been an issue for me.

It is fine.

Issue is usually with the user.

If you already know how to use GV, you will be fine.

Should it ever stop working, expect explosions and screams of horror.

Lets just hope that the head haunch at the palace and head haunch at Googs don't come to that million dollar agreement.
