My Google Voice number was claimed and verified by another user???
 

I got this email from GV a few days ago:
Dear Mickey Mouse,

"Please note that the forwarding number (831) XXX-XX01 was deleted from your Google Voice account (MickeyXXX@gmail.com) because it was claimed and verified by another Google Voice user.
If you still want this forwarding number on your account and believe this was an error, please click here to learn more.
Thanks,
The Google Voice Team"
How's that even possible?

Somebody set up another GV number with that forwarding phone number.

Typically you can add two GV numbers to one phone. If you use the forwarding number for a third time it will generate the email to the original GV number that was set up with the forwarding number.

Other user took it and made it his own - you didnt bother to work on keeping it active it would seem. Happens - not abnormal.

Thanks rsot. That is true, I wasn't aware of thee need of keeping it active. How do I make sure my gv remain mine and active?

Use the phone..... make sure you have activity.

You have to check the account time to time - if costs end up being involved to keep it active, then they must be covered (I forget if there are costs involved later)

Thanks GB. "have activity" I would like to have all my gv numbers ready sor use 24/7.How do I manage the gv from my mobile internationally? I've been reading about it but so far the best thread was a US member that managed to forward his gv numbers to a mobile and save each number as the stealth name so when it rings it displays the person being called instead of the caller. but that seems a lot easier done in the US. Is it possible for non-US members?
