Phone numbers

Does anyone create their ebay accounts with random phone numbers, then go back and update the number later once you purchase your tracfone and ready to start listing?

I really don't want to go out and buy 20 tracfones just so I can make 20 accounts that I wont use right away. I'd rather update the phone number when I'm ready to start selling. Any thoughts?

I highly doubt ebay will pay attention to my phone number until I do the phone verification.

Re: Phone numbers

Have you thought about using a VOIP forwarding service? There are some good ones out there and they are generally cheaper to use than the TracFone. Also, it can be done online. Best of all, you don't end up with 20 cell phones with labels on them.

The service I use allows me to either transmit the number calling in to my caller-id, or transmit the CALLED number (my stealth number) to my caller-id. This allows me to program the stealth names into my cell phone and carry only ONE phone with me. If someone calls in, I won't know WHO is calling, but I will know WHO I am supposed to be! Works like a charm.

If you need TracFones, let me know, I have several dozen sitting in a closet. :pound:

aking, that actually works and you can do that. But I make sure that the area code is that of the address city.

Yea I actually think I used to do this but can't quite remember. I'm going to test it, if I lose an account I'll know why.

Yea I usually use a valid phone number of like a store or restaurant in my general area (same area code), then once I'm ready I update the phone number in my account info.

The numbers I use are valid and working numbers. I shouldn't have said "random".

Re: Phone numbers

As long as the numbers are valid you are fine, but of course be aware ebay and paypal can call at anytime.

True, but would ebay call a non-active account that's just aging?

Re: Phone numbers

Why take that risk, tracfones are 5 bucks and you can change the number once. So buy 1 port it change the number and port that.

Re: Phone numbers

Call a non-active account? you mean not using at all? Why would ebay dormant accounts?

danshan 08-27-2014 09:59 PM

Re: Phone numbers

They do and can call for absolutely no reason

Re: Phone numbers

For 2.50 why even open that door? Remember changing personal data later can also trigger a review. I steal someones login info, the acct has not been used in months now it has tons of new listings and updated contact info sounds to me like an easy acct to be reviewed.

Re: Phone numbers

Sometimes if you login from a different computer, I have received an automated call, that was unexpected , and when I answered I needed to press a digit, I forget the specifics it was a while ago

Also , if u make a purchase , paypal will call you, and it happens more on newer accounts

But once you learn to operate correct , you can eliminate these security calls, but will get the verification from time to time from paypal when adding a new bank account, or listing on a newer eBay account , a pin will be sent

Now,more than ever I feel having a working number is now necessary and too hard to do without if not impossible when operating over the long haul

Like I said in that other thread.

This is a very poor idea.

It has two lots of problems.

ebay can & does check numbers. No point at putting a random number ever.
Users have had accounts suspended for doing this.

A far more serious reason is your paypal.

If you mess around with the phone number, down the track you may well have issues. There are threads on the topic.

I strongly suggest not going that way if you are trying to make long lasting stealth accounts.

Going to be a waste of your time & money otherwise.

They are still random id they belong to someone else.

You are using info of another party without their OK.

I use to do this in the past. I would create a bundle of eBay accounts just as buyers using random numbers. Never had a problem. A few days before I made the plunge into selling I would switch the number to a tracfone or something else. I always had buying feedback though.

Remind me. How do you know if ebay tried to call? Do you send you an email of message on ebay?

I make accts with gray phone numbers from the start for years with the right area code only as buyer acct. Then I let them sit for who knows how long...Later when I want to start selling I change it to a good trac phone # on the first listing. No problems ever with Tracfones ever.

This method sounds ok but sounds scary if ebay or pp do one of them big ol sweeps and kill all the stuff you have bern patiently aging. Just not worth it to me
