FreedomPop Phone Service

So I came across FreedomPop Phone Service, They only provide you with the SIM Card. The initial cost is $9.99+ Tax, they start you with the following:
1. Unlimited Talk, Text
2. 1GB Internet

Now, if you stay with this plan they charge whatever they charge BUT....If you downgrade to their 200 Minute, 500 Text, 200MB Internet you get the service for FREE!

This is their Pricing Plans:

I believe they give you a local number (where they shipped the SIM to) but not sure if you are allowed to change it.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

works fine, runs on sprint. have had their mifi boxes for years and one free phone from them still running.

i have never changed numbers though. everything else runs as a normal prepaid cell service.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

Not too bad really, technically would just need 1 Phone and multiple Sim's.

unkown5454 05-20-2016 01:51 AM

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

yes, they are a very loosely run service. expect to be on your own. you can create as many accounts as youd like.

i am also using charge.co at the moment. more expensive, but like the company much better. also runs on sprint.

So you are saying that these numbers can stay active for some time. I need a good 5 numbers for the long term.

As far as I have read.....the number is free for long time....as long as you don't go over the free minutes/text/data.

Freedompop Global is different than Freedompop in that regard.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

With any given provider, to play it safe just make sure you make a phone call somewhere once every quarter or so, just to make sure your account isn't made dormant. This is especially the case when you downgrade to a 'FREE' plan.

How did you get to that page? Right now it is only letting me go through with buying a phone from them AND THEN it offers me the service......how did you just select to purchase the sim card?

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

So I ordered it. What a joke. Sim card is for data only and you have to use an app. Which is no different than all the other apps. Careful I notice freedompop tries to fee you every way worse than ebay!

unkown5454 06-26-2016 05:30 PM

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

i can make calls no problem. what are you talking about??

miketyson 06-26-2016 06:37 PM

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

Lol what am I talking about? I thought it was a reg sim with calls and texts. It's a Global UK sim you have to use the app. The sim card is for data only

https://www.engadget.com/2016/01/20/...op-global-sim/

Should you exhaust that allowance, you can simply buy additional data, which is one of the ways FreedomPop makes money. An extra 500MB can be had for $10/£10, or you can buy in bulk at discounted rates ($50 for 4GB, for example). International data roaming is obviously the main selling point of the SIM, which is why FreedomPop's also offering a WiFi hotspot to stick it in for the introductory price of $50/£39. You can just plug it straight into your tablet or smartphone of course, though you don't get any inclusive minutes or texts like you do with the provider's mobile-specific plans. Also, to use voice and text services by way of FreedomPop's mobile apps, you first have to buy a virtual number based in one of the supported countries.

Miketyson, I have made phone calls with no problem with the Sim Card.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

Did they send me the wrong card? I ordered it then couldn't make any outgoing calls thought it wasn't activated. I called and they told me it's data only and I had to use an app. It works but it's junk.

Did you order the right Sim card?

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

i have exactly what MM78 posted in the beginning. it was also sent to me via email since im already a freedompop customer. i plugged it in my Moto 3 and it works perfect. you have to install their app because they implement SIP technology, but you can make phone calls, text, email, internet, etc without any issues.

i don't know what you did or what you ordered, but it definitely works.

miketyson 06-27-2016 08:25 AM

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

Yes I can make calls and text with the app too. I have the same sim. I was just saying other than the sim because you have to use an app it's really no different than another app.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

except that you are running off an actual carrier and not just wifi. that is why you pay

miketyson 06-27-2016 02:05 PM

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

I understand. It's just a weird setup. little bit of data and a app. I'm going to try it out for free long term numbers. That's the only point. Other than that the service is no good.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

Alright, let me explain how I use FreedomPop.
1. Get a $5 Sim Card from SpeedTalk Mobile Prepaid (Uses T-Mobile Numbers)
2. Get a FreedomPop Sim Card (200 minute free plan)
3. Register both Sims to my desired Area Code
4. Sign up to PayPal using the FreedomPop Number
5. Sign up to Ebay with the SpeedTalk Number
6. Change Ebay number (SpeedTalk) to the FreedomPop Number

Now I have a Phone Number on both Ebay and PayPal that is free and 200 minutes free a month.

I can see this working but i bought 5 sims and all have been a bit sketchy with random numbers texting me "heyyyyy" like a 12 year old girl, and also failed the test of ebay verification....

Which Sim? The FreedomPop will not work with Ebay, the Speedtalk does work, I made 4 accounts using the method I outlined and all of them were 1,000/$25,000.

What happens if you try and use the freedompop for ebay?

And why do you need long term numbers for anything? You think you will have to talk to paypal or ebay?

FreedomPop uses VOIP, it's no better than Google Voice.

Where to begin with this, people here tend to use crappy services like RDP's, crappy Proxies, Crappy VPN's and a lot of them have problems mainly with PayPal, so a lot of people have to verify who they are with the phone number used when they registered with PayPal.

Re: FreedomPop Phone Service

I'm confused on freedompop, it says it uses 4g Lte? But it's voip? Do you have to be using a wifi signal to use its service?

Why do people use all those crappy services? I just use my art hotspot and haven't has any issues? Seems way easier too.
